When I was preop looking in to RNY (never heard of the DS), A Ds'r send me a private message about the DS and providing much of the info Diana has provided above.  That same day there also was a "surgery war" going on which I had read.  I remember getting that private message and being PISSED.  How dare someone tell me their surgery is superior!?  How dare you make me feel bad because my insurance won't pay for the DS?

BUT, I was intrigued and started reading on the DS board.  I fought my insurance and traveled 5 hours to get my DS.  I'm only 3 months out and already in love with my DS.  I KNOW that I will get to my goal and stay there!

What? You mean it didn't make you run far far away from the DS?!

Good for you!

I hold you personally accountable for upsetting my fragile Simms type existence by introducing your vile opinions based around quantifiable medical studies.  HOW VERY DAAAARE YOU!  Further more you're malicious surgery mongering caused me to have my bowels re-routed and my stomach lopped into a banana and now I weight less than I have in almost 20 years and it is YOUR fault.

God you DSers are such arseholes.....such slim healthy ******g arseholes.  Sorry hard to type while holding spare ribs..... as I was saying about you ******g Ds areseholes.....you have nothing positive to offer.  So some people don't get to perpetuate the hideous soul crushing failures of the past because YOU  yes YOU come alone spreading your hate and your flatulence!  Wait gotta get the turkey breast out of the oven.

Back again...yeh so you guys are mean and vile and spread nothing but information which is ******g wrong! I came here to have second class information and uninformed choices so that I could turn my life into a long dragging lame arsed misery of attempts and failures until I ended up in a spiders web of scar tissue from failed surgeries.

God I hate you Dsers you're just such potty mouthed haters and Jesus thinks you smell like ****

A disgruntled person!

 Love you Kermy!!!!

If a preop reads this and is offended by the statement of stupidity and sheep, perhaps it isn't the best suregery for them. Especially if they run away crying, just saying...

I would read this as a challenge! "Oh ya? You think I can't handle it? Bring it on!" That's the kind of attitude you need, there is sooo much working against you with the DS. So much mis-information, everything is catered to RNYers. Everyone assumes that is what I have had, even my primary care physician and people in the ER have no idea, "Oh so the Bypass huh?"----"UH NO, I told you DS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!". It is dire that you can advocate for yourself. That is all she was trying to get across by that.

I have been reading all the replies to Diana's Post and I haven't noticed any PRE - OPS .. So ill chime in :) ... I was on my way to RNY. Had picked a surgeon, had a consultation had appointments for pre op tests. Then I read about this DS (had no idea what it was so I went to google) and I saw that it was Duodenal Switch. To make a very long story short I started reading posts here and asking questions and I had some wonderful DSers help me out. I changed my insurance company so I could go to the Doctor that I wanted and that performs the DS. I am waiting on insurance approval but if all goes well I will be having my DS this March. It was the best decision I could have ever made, I am glad that people like Diana exist or else I would have gotten the RNY and I would have known about the DS when it was too late, I would have had to cut twice!.. So I am grateful to everyone who has the courage to stand up for what they believe in and Pay it forward!... be over-zealous ... be a DS advocate! ... Like someone mentioned before ... even if it offends 20 people and it helps 1!!! .. that 1 is the one that counts!... People need to get over them selves. If you are so sure about your surgery then why are you getting all hot headed and offended. I believe insecure people are the ones to get offended first, if even the smallest part of you believes you made the wrong choice, you are going to get offended by posts like these. However, your first mistake was crying about a post that was not intended for you "post-ops" .. :) ... Well I am done!... Good job Diana, Keep It up!.. :).. Thanx for helping baby pre ops like me!...

How scared you must be that people might disagree, that you list no less than ten character flaws attributed to those who don't choose DS.
EVERY surgery needs to be applicable to each person's personal and medical cir****tances.
Hopefully no-one will drink your Kool Aid.

Is lack of reading comprehension a character flaw, or an intellectual or emotional one?

Those character traits are ones I suggest are inconsistent with having a DS, not necessarily traits of those who chose a different surgery.  There is a difference, although perhaps too subtle for you to notice.

I'm just dropping in to say... Diana did subject this thread to pre-ops. She didn't jump in on a thread for RNY and criticize RNY.

There is nothing wrong with trying to get the DS word out to pre-ops that maybe have it as an option but have never heard of it.

I am RNY. Im happy to have lost weight but, life isn't perfect for me. All surgeries have problems as its a unnatural digestive system.
