It was the addition of the smileys on each line that made that post just perfect.

I'll answer FOR me.  I am a RNY success and I'll cheer for those electing to have RNY as I will those choosing the DS, VSG.  I'm anti-lap band because I have family members that elected that surgery and have had problems and have had significant regain and have had their port replaced for a leak.  I don't support the lap band, period.  (I'm sure I'll get flamed for this I don't care, it's MY experience).

Diana is getting the word out.  Do I think she can be like a pit bull yes I do, does it mean I don't like her NO.  The DS needs to be known, so many do not know about it.  I regularly tell those looking into to surgery to look at the DS as an option.

I don't dump much (a slight nauseous feeling if I over do sweets) and I eat butter, cream, gravy, fat and it hasn't caused ME (again my experience) any regain.  Sugar yeah I saw my weight creep up with with sugar changed my habits and I'm below goal at 6 years out, normal BMI, no complications.  Could it still happen, of course, as with all surgeries we never know what the future holds if there isn't some compliance.  I know being MO held lots of heath issues, I'm glad I'm not there anymore.

So I'm NOT offended and I don't understand why so many RNYers get a bee stuck in their bonnet when these post come out.  It almost comes across as a fear they did choose the wrong surgery FOR THEM.

As on any message board take what you can and ignore the rest.  What a concept!

Not just RNY even some DSers are ashamed of her posts. They don't want to be seen as nuts like she portrays herself. And whats wrong with the RNY cheerleaders? I can bet you weren't a cheerleader yourself. Your just a little puppet and thats funny.

The "mailiciousness" comes into play by insisting that anyone who does not get a DS does so because they are too "stupid" to see the benefits of the DS over any other surgery or too "weak" to fight for it.  It implies that we could not have intelligent reasons for choosing another surgery and the DS is the only "right" surgery to get.  It is not simply imformative, but degrading to anyone who has had a different surgery type.  That is why this post is offensive to postops and others who are firm in their decision and reasons for another surgery.

I don't think that at all. I think if people believe that, then they have their own insecurities to deal with. There are many people who have had failed surgeries that come to the DS board seeking a revision and are welcomed with open arms. None of them are treated as stupid for having had a that surgery in the first place.

Had I not needed metabolic intervention, I would have had the sleeve.  If portion control was my only issue, I would have had the sleeve.  I think it's a fine surgery.  I don't think my DS is better than your VSG.

I don't see where she's saying that at all. And I swear, I'm not just being obtuse about it. Every surgery has reasons why certain people shouldn't have it. This is even more true for the DS because it will significantly alter how you go about living the rest of your life. And people can really jack themselves up if they refuse to acknowledge that and choose to remain ignorant while proceeding with the surgery anyway.

Although you may have preferred her to use a more accomodating tone, it's not mean to say that yes, there really are some people who are too stupid to follow the rules and don't have the backbone necessary to be a champion for their own medical care. There are plenty of people who would rather just blindly trust in whatever their doctors tell them. And some can get away with that. But not with the DS.

Despite that however, I don't see where in this entire post she is actually maligning anyone's personal decision to chose their own surgery. If you're confidant in your choice and know you made it from a position of awareness of all your options and how each would impact your life, then fantastic! I don't see why you should feel offended. Unfortunately, there are people choosing other surgery types without that awareness and Diane is simply trying to rectify that. What they choose to do with the knowledge is completely up to them.

It's also not malicious to point out that statistically speaking, the DS has shown to be more effective with regards to %EWL and resolution of comorbidities. That doesn't mean that each DSer is superior to any other WLS patient. But it does mean they're starting off with better odds in that regard. It's just another aspect of the risk-benefit assessment that should be a part of every person's decision-making when it comes to WLS.
