TO MY  way of thinking... each person needs to do their own research.  We just need to be supportive of those who finally get surgery....WHICH-EVER is right for them....
.. WHEN I HAD my surgery there were no options.!!!...
So I am glad that everyone has them available now...   Mine was an extended gastric by-pass with a pouching procedure and banding...Yes it works.... and yes I do have complications.. If another procedure had been available I might have chosen it....
BUt I am glad TOO GLAD to be alive to fight over the merits of one surgery above another...   NEWBIES>>>> JUST DO your homework!  make your decison.. We WILL support it here!   Denise

Well, actually, there were. I seem to remember you saying you wre 16 years post-op, correct? The DS has been around since 1988, almost 23 years now.

But I'm certain that you didn't have access to accurate info about the DS back then, and your surgeon didn't offer the DS. That's exactly the reason so many of us 'old timers' pay forward info about the DS---we're just so damned grateful that someone, way back when, paid it forward to US.

I wish I'd "met" Diana or someone like her online back in 2002-2003 when I was picking my surgery. I'm very grateful to the DS people who helped me make the decision to have my revision.

I don't understand why RNY post ops have a problem with Diana's posts.  She speaking to pre ops, not post ops.  How come I never see any RNY cheer leaders? Anyhoo, I don't think Diana gives a rat's ass what surgery people choose, but she does care about spreading the info about the DS to pre ops that aren't aware of all their options.

Diana's posts will send many to the DS board wanting more info and many do switch surgeries because they are made aware that there are other choices available to them.  I was one of those people.

What I can't figure out is .... Post ops are offended because????????

People get offended because no one wants to believe that they might possibly have made the wrong choice, or that their surgeon wasn't God.

I was lucky, I remember my surgeon telling me (and others) that he wouldn't do the lap-band because he knew that most of them would have to be revised. Even back in 03-04 he was telling us that they slip, they cause complications, etc. He also had a healthy respect for DS surgeons.

When he closed his practice he sent out a short list of surgeons who would understand our particular brand of RNY combined with the prolene mesh band. Dr. Greenbaum was on the list. When I was reading up and thinking of a revision, I saw that Dr. Greenbaum was mentioned quite a bit on the boards in conjunction with DS revisions. I'm so glad I found that information.
