I am 5'3" and 259lbs, and wear a size 22. I can zip a size 20 jeans, but they're poured on. I'm in a XXL.

I am built genetically "weird" like a Neanderthal...Very short and very stout..
When I was active duty Air Force, I was only around 122-123 lbs and could fit in nothing SMALLER than a size 12... (remember that was also years go before the Vanity sizing!)

Over the last 10-35 years, clothing manufacturers have gone to what is called Vanity Sizing.
Back in teh 1960's Marilyn Monroe wore a size 14! And she was curvy and sexy and very well within her weight. However...TODAY she would wear a size 1-2. (Vanity sizing).

I am currently at 184 and am 5'3 and I wear a 16. (Some brands of 16's are too tight and otehrs way to loose!)

When I was was at my heaviest (289) I wore ALMOST a size 30... (a very tight 28/3XXXL)

Today I wear an XL in Misses, a L in womens and a M in Mens (shirts).

My shoes have not changed at all... I used to wear a 9-10 in mens (my feet are very WIDE) and I still wear that size...In a womens I need to wear almost an 11-12.

My body has ALWAYS worn size that are "bigger" than what a lot of people wear for their weight though... In other words...When I am down to 160, I suspect I will only be in 14's. I have the very classic hourglass shape... 42-37-42

When I was fit and before all my surgeries and weight gain, I was 38-32-40 (and that was at 122)! I've always been "big breasted" and short and squat like a mini amazon or football player!
LOL!  I am just 5'3
Warmly,

LOL Jackie, I would be your polar opposite.

I'm 5'10" wear 10-12 and L/XL shirts @ 220-225lbs. At my heaviest I was 402 and in a 30/32W and 30/32W/4XL shirts (which most people never believe me, cause most people of that size are never in "that" small a size) My jeans were never elastic, but I wasn't far from needing it.

I'm extremely dense, lol. Bones are big and heavy, I carry alot of muscle. I'm broad across but really narrow from the side.

So HI from another of the :I'm not who you should base anything off of club. LOL

I am 5'10 1/2 and weigh about 152. I typically wear an 8. I have also bought Levi's that were a 6, and Sonoma jeans that were a  10. Tops are usually  medium. Most of the issue for me is the length of the both the tops and bottoms.  Many tops are too short waisted. Bra went from a 40DDD to a 34 D.  My shoe size went down also. I wore a 10, now a 9.5. My weight was 252 on the date of surgery. I wore a 3x top, and 20 jeans.
The only thing that got bigger was my smile!

It's not about the size...it's about the fit.

I must either be a lot larger than the other posters at my 5'-3" inch 125 pound frame, or unwilling to squeeze into tiny sizes.

I usually wear a size 8 slack, size 6 skirt, and either a 10 or 12 blouse. Sweaters and knits are a medium. Jeans vary quite a bit, because these days, there is so much stretch in the denim.

But as my husband said today, as I was moving up sizes in finding a denim jacket, and found that I needed a large in the  Levi brand, "who cares what size it is...does it look good?" I happily bought the size large and it looks great.

Its all about body shape, density, and brands.. I do not squeeze into anything- I don't like things tight on my tummy at all, ever... but I can wear at least 5 different sizes comfortably.  It would be awesome if there were some industry standards to go by.

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!

I am 5'5 and weigh 215. I wear 14's and 16's in bottoms (depending in the brand) and 14's or XL's in tops.

Bizarre, I know! Build, height, muscle to fat ratio, among other things all factor in.

I am 5 ft /12 in ( gotta get that half inch in there!).  I weigh 126.  I wear 8-10 in jeans and pants and Medium in tops.

I'm 61 years old, no panni, but I can't stand pants to be tight around my belly - it really makes me nauseated.  My boys (age 34 & 36) tell me to buy smaller clothes.  Maybe it's an age thing??

I am current 160 lbs and stand 5'5" and I am in a size 8 jeans and a large top because I am still large chested.  I really think it all depends on how you are built.

Thanks so much, everyone, for the GREAT responses, I knew the wonderful folks on this board would tell me like it is for each person!  It's an interesting discussion, and I can see I'm not the only one who's confused about sizes.  Something I realized, though, while reading the thread is that I was comparing myself, or maybe my "success", to others.  I've learned through this process not to compare my weight loss to anyone else's, but I guess I haven't learned that lesson the full 360.  The truth is, I can't compare myself to ANYONE else, whether it's clothing sizes, or weight loss, or eating plan, or anything else, because my story is MY STORY, and it is what it is.

As one poster said, though, I'm sure happy I'm shopping in the "regular" section of the store these days, the selection is so much better.  Thanks again everyone!
