Lump in throat feeling

I am 9 weeks post-op with a GPS and I still have a lump in the throat feeling that will not go away.  I had my gallbladder removed on January 11, and it didn't help at all with that.  The same surgeon performed that surgery and he SAID he looked down with a scope and all looked well with the GPS.  It is very hard to describe, but it makes you feel nauseous, but not from the stomach.  It is NOT acid reflux because those meds do not effect it at all.  And my saliva is so thick and abundant.  I'm not eating too fast, nor too much.  I'm still on soft foods, but mostly eat broth with a whole wheat cracker or two.

Has anyone else experienced this?  If so WHAT THE HECK IS IT, AND WHAT CAN I DO TO GET SOME RELIEF?

I had this surgery to feel better, but I feel so much worse than I ever have.

if I am reading this right your surgeon looked and said all is well and you still feel like this?  Now thats weird I am wondering if an ENT needs to come into place?  Hope I don't sound dumb with this idea?

There was discussion on a DS Yahoo group recently about a yeast infection in the mouth/body that had saliva symptoms like you're describing. Given your recent surgeries I'm guessing you've been on antibiotics which can really wreak some havoc and cause yeast infections. Do you have white patches on your tongue? You might want to get your GP to check it out and prescribe Diflucan? Are you taking a probiotic?

I have thought about going to an ENT.  I don't have white patches on my tongue, and I haven't taken any antibiotics at all since the surgery.  I do know that I felt better immediately following the gallbladder surgery.  After I was home for a day or two, I started feeling bad again.  I'm trying to drink as much water as I can, but it is SO hard to get more than about 32 ounces in per day.  What are the symptoms of dehydration?

Sounds like my hubbys yeast problem!   Here's what helped him...   NatraBio has a  homeopathic   candida yeast prep.      Use as directed on the bottle( it comes in a dropper bottle and use it under the tongue...It also works fast.   You should see difference in two days.  It is available at The Vitamin cottage... the UPC on it is...   71400 537 01 ( and a very small 5) I don't know if they use the last number or not.. I try to keep this because when we get problems it is usually on friday and our doc is closed friday and the weekend...so it might be tues or wed before we could see a Dr.  He did two rounds of prescription  anti-yeast products and this worked better  and complete.
Also you have to get your fluid intake up. You are in danger of having blood clots with no more fluids than 32 oz.a day.
When I had a day that was that low in fluid, I increased it the next day by... getting most of my protein in liquid form and just drinking  most of the day....until the liquid is in.
Your absolute minimum in fluid intake should be 40 oz and with this thick mucus, you should try for 80 0z... Denise

Hi - neither do I know what GPS stands for.  Sorry.  BUT, yes, I had your same symptoms up until probably 6 months out - mine was a lump or felt like something loose in my throat -sometimes my throat would make a clicking sound if I talked for a while in a meeting and this was embarrassing.  It also made me nauseated.  Prevacid helped, but did not solve the problem.  I swore to my doc that it was not acid reflux because it didn't feel like acid reflux to me - but prevacid kept me from vomiting - didn't take away the lump or the weird feeling  -but kept me from vomiting so much.  Prevacid was over $2 a pill, but I would have paid $10 - the nurse even commented to me that she thought I was depending on it too much once when I was having trouble getting a prescription refilled.  I depended on it daily.  If I didn't take it first thing in the morning before anything more than water passed my lips, I would be vomiting all day long.  Suddenly one day I noticed the feeling was gone - completely.  I started taking prevacid every other day - so scared it would come back - but it didn't and I quite the prevacid all together.  I've got at least 50 in my closet now.  These things were my life line and I mean I wanted a sure supply of them!  :)

GPS stands for Gastric Bypass Surgery.  I should have said RNY, sorry!

Probably Gastric Plication Surgery.

Usually that feeling is due to esophageal irritation and swelling but you shouldn't be having that particular problem 9 weeks post op. And 9 weeks post op you should be able to eat more than soup and crackers. What happens when you eat dense protein?
