Daily Atheist Devotional #196 (Devil Dog Edition)

Wanna blame religion for this?  Show me the scripture that says dogs that chew a bible should be burned and hanged... or even killed.  This is a crazy act by a crazy lady who is apparently a believer.

There are Atheists that have done crazy things, too.  Like the Tucson shooter.  So, because that loony Atheist was crazy, all of us are now?  Right.  Why aren't you condemning Atheism for the crazy shooter like you're condemning Belief because of this crazy lady?  Hypocrisy.

Pointing at this crazy lady, and saying "it's because of her belief" is NONSENSE.  The same nonsense as when believers point at the Tucson shooter, and claim it's because of his DISbelief.

Oh, puhleese, there's all kinds of **** NOT in the bible that xians still imagine is there.  You know they don't know their Bibles.  A dog chewing the HOLY BOOK is enough of a stimulus, obviously!

"The next time believers tell you that 'separation of church and state' does not appear in our founding document, tell them to stop using the word 'trinity.' The word 'trinity' appears nowhere in the bible. Neither does Rapture, or Second Coming, or Original Sin. If they are still unfazed (or unphrased), by this, then add Omniscience, Omnipresence, Supernatural,Transcendence, Afterlife, Deity, Divinity, Theology, Monotheism, Missionary, Immaculate Conception, Christmas, Christianity, Evangelical, Fundamentalist, Methodist, Catholic, Pope, Cardinal, Catechism, Purgatory, Penance, Transubstantiation, Excommunication, Dogma, Chastity, Unpardonable Sin, Infallibility, Inerrancy, Incarnation, Epiphany, Sermon, Eucharist, the Lord's Prayer, Good Friday, Doubting Thomas, Advent, Sunday School, Dead Sea, Golden Rule, Moral, Morality, Ethics, Patriotism, Education, Atheism, Apostasy, Conservative (Liberal is in), Capital Punishment, Monogamy, Abortion, *****graphy, Homosexual, Lesbian, Fairness, Logic, Republic, Democracy, Capitalism, Funeral, Decalogue, or Bible. Ah.. "True" Christians don't believe in the Trinity. ;)  You're quote is one against pedantry.  Those WORDS don't appear, but those CONCEPTS do (depending on your interpretation, of course).  So, you quote something close, but miss the mark yet again.

We know I'm an Atheist.  I have a family bible, with all sorts of geneology stuff going back to Denmark, nearly 400 years past, that if one of my dogs destroyed I would probably need some heavy sedation not to kill the dog (or child, or spouse, whatever).  This, of course, is why that particular bible is not reachable by anyone without a key.

You forget a point you make often;  Religion is not a cause, it's an excuse.  As your openning sentence, they claim crap that is not in holy scripture. Thus, AGAIN, it's not "religion", it's their flawed, crazy thinking that is the problem.  As you say, they can't support their acts in scripture,so you can't blame scripture for their acts.

But, you are wise not to address the actual point about consistent view and hypocricy.

"True" Christians don't believe in the Trinity.

... doesn't this violate the "True Scotsman" rule?

It is actually an example of the True Scotsman Fallacy... which is why I put "true" in quotes and followed the sentence with a ;).  Glad someone caught the reference.

I am new to OH , I thought it was all about Obesity Help.  I found nothing about that in this post.  If this is what OH is all about I am unsubbing.  I found nothing here to help anyone with obesity issues. I had no idea people used these forums to promote their life choices.

Isn't choosing to have weight loss surgery making and promoting a life choice? :)

I'm sorry, I assumed Obesity Help was all about getting help with obesity.  That is the life choice I was interested in.  I clicked on every message in the forum hoping to learn and glean information about food choices, diet info, surgery info etc.  Obviously I was wrong and as soon as I figure out how to I will unsubscribe.

There's no reason to leave. This site is huge. If you want to find something that is more related to the surgery you're choosing to have - or if you're here to learn about all surgeries - there are plenty of other boards to go to. On the top of this site, where it says FORUMS, click there and a box will drop down and you can explore the other boards this site has to offer. The Main Board, which is where you are now, is open to anything and anyone - and you'll notice that this thread is numbered 196 which means it's been around for a while.
