Daily Atheist Devotional #196 (Devil Dog Edition)

I am a Christian. I just don't believe that most Christians follow the teaching of Christ - they're too busy trying to push their own will onto everyone else.  Extremists of every religion seem to do that.  Again, I find much more intelligent discourse in these threads than I do in the daily devotionals on the revision board, which are made by a woman who never had a revision, isn't seeking a revision, and isn't offering any revision advice.

THANK YOU!  Extremists of any type, just like this woman that killed the dog, are dangerous.  Sadly, religious extremists are the worst.  I respect the folks that post the daily devotionals, and am not including all of them in the extremist category, most are very kind and interesting people.  But there is not much rousing discussion in those posts.  Most everyone thinks the same and agrees with each other.   Here we get a variety of posters with different views and thoughts.  So what if we do not agree?    How boring would that be!   I have great admiration for most of the posters on here.  LeaAnn is doing a service to this forum.  (And she can be hilarious.)

the something that I can do.

Where exactly is this rude and bitter? I didn't see it in the original post. I didn't see it in responses to the original post. As a matter of fact I did not see it until some posters, who seem to want to control the content of all posts, showed up, and they brought it with them.

This is a sincere question: What makes you think that it is perfectly alright to come into a clearly designated post and lecture the posters therein?

See I know there are other posts that I would not be interested in; religious. pray for me types are never going to interest me. So I ignore them. I don't go into them to scold them about what they are posting. I don't get offended at non-WLS posts. Live and let live. So why do some of you have such difficulty according the same respect to others?

If you read for content you would realize that those *****gularly respond to the DAD's are a happy lot. And yet the first thing so many of you accuse us of being is rude or mean or bitter. Curious isn't it, that you would see what are clearly your own character flaws in others but not in yourself.

I hope you take the time to answer my question and don't act like a lot of the other hit and run finger waggers. I would sincerely like to know how you can take an entire group of people to task and scold them for not doing things your way. Is it xianity that gives you that kind of arrogance?

Oh, and again, reading for content? Many of the posters agree with you that this was not about a religious nut, just a garden variety nut. Maybe you would be less distressed if you actually read what people said before you formed an opinion.

You are amazing.  I find myself not having to post much on this thread because you say exactly what I am thinking, and more.

Lying is a sin. Or maybe you're just blind, because there are MANY Christian threads on this very board.

Wait a minute, you lied again. You said you were unsubbing.

"I can only say that while I have not seen any topics on the forum about Christianity yet I would bet that if I did they wouldn't have been as rude as  some of you folks."

THAT is because WE believe in "live and let live".  WE believe that everyone gets to have whatever faith they want to, or none at all.  AND we wouldn't DARE go onto one of the Spiritual threads of the day and tell THEM that they're WRONG or didn't BELONG there - the way YOU did here.

The fact that you wanted to post here was not what caused your problem.  Your mere presence is not intrusive.  The fact that you essentially walked into a "room" full of like minded people only to tell them that they're all WRONG and DON'T BELONG is what caused the backlash against you.

Would you walk into a synagogue and tell all of the Jewish worshipers that they worshiped wrongly?  Would you walk into a Hindu temple and tell those worshipers that they were worshiping false gods?  And if you DARED do that, wouldn't you EXPECT a backlash?

So bear in mind that we often have believers posting on these threads, but they are, in general, VERY respectful and interested in other points of view.  We welcome them because they are NOT here to tell us that we are wrong, or that we don't belong here.  They are here to LEARN.

You've heard the saying "when in Rome, do as the Romans do"?  Well, you effectively walked into Rome and told  all of the Romans they had no business being there, and you incurred the wrath of Caesar in doing so.  So don't turn this into something it isn't.  It's not Xian bashing.  It's a response to your disrespect and poor behavior, plain and simple.

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I (finally) found another source other than AP for this story.

In this case, based on this new article, it seems pretty clear this woman's religeous delussions actually contributed to this case:

Woman Says God Told Her to Hang and Burn Dog

Miriam Fowler Smith told police that God told her to hang and burn her nephew’s pit bull dog after it chewed up her Bible. She has been arrested and charged with a felony count of animal cruelty.

Andy Fowler, the woman’s nephew, left the dog at home on January 9th. When he returned on January 15th the dog was missing. When he asked his aunt what happened to the dog, she told him it was a “devil dog" and she had killed it because God told her to. Fowler called the police.

The cops came and found the dog’s body under a pile of leaves with an extension cord wrapped around its neck. Its body was also partially burned. They questioned Smith, who admitted to killing the animal after it chewed up her Bible and said she was worried that it might also attack neighborhood children.
