Ive lost 200 pounds and I had RNY...I was and still am a sugar addict...I can eat sweets after sweets and it doesn't make me dump...Only things I get sick on is high fat cheeses like cheddar, 2 % and whole mil****cream...A few times I got really sick from eating too fast...I also can't eat rice, macaroni, spaghetti as it swells up and makes me horribly sick...I don't know much about the DS but I have read quite often to where they tend to have diahreah issues...Good luck in your decision.

Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only TRUE FRIENDS will leave footprints in your heart...And may that friendship have such a ONENESS that when one weeps the other will taste salt...Friends are like balloons ; once you let them go you can't get them back....So I'm going to tie you to my heart so I never lose you.

I'd go for the DS. A bypass involves a pouch and stoma... BTDT with a lap band, NEVER AGAIN! Food getting stuck, potential dumping, but the key here isn't if you can lose with bypass, it is if you can maintain your weight loss.

I don't think bypass is a bad surgery, I just think DS is more effective for losing and most of all maintaining and the quality of life is better. With bypass you'll only malabsorb calories for 6-24 months. With DS you'll malabsorb calories forever.

DS is more food forgiving long term. Bypass is less food forgiving long term than a normal gut. Usually about 3 years post op you are metabolically challenged and losing any regain is verrrrry difficult.

Losing a pound now is much easier than losing a pound 3 years post op bypass.

Any surgery has risks.  While many RNYers dump some do not.  It takes a considerable amount of sugar to get me to dump.

With that said, my stepsister's grandma lost 220 pounds with her RNY.  It took her around 19 months.  She's been careful not to regain.  She doesn't measure her food anymore, but she stays conscious of what she eats and walks a little every week.

I want to thank you all for replying to my post and for the wealth of information - I am learning more and more every day! And I also want to say CONGRATS to all you "LOSERS" out there! You all are truly inspirational to me to hear of all the success you have had. I am so excited to start this journey and I only hope to be as successful as some of you have been. I am the first to admit that I am a sugar/carb addict. I cannot control myself in that I will sit and eat one after the other until they are gone, whether it be cookies, cakes, icecream, candy... I am really leaning towards the RNY for this reason. Although I may not dump like some of you have mentioned, the threat of dumping I think will scare me enough not to try it! LOL Something I just need to take a chance with. But again, thank you so much for sharing with me. I will continue my research into both surgeries. I am looking forward to hearing more from you all in the future.
