Eating with a DS, PART 2: Another Day in the Life (pics!)

I'm sorry...one of girlfriends is considering WLS.  I might have given her wrong info.  Doesn't the band have zero malabsorbtion?  You could eat alot of bacon and cheese with the right band..length? but you would blow your calorie intake wouldn't you?  One of my old coworkers has a band but never lost any weight because all she drinks is milkshakes.  She has some kind of funky band issues so her and real food don't get along but she hasn't lost an ounce of weight (that I can see) so I don't consider her in the norm.  I'm not knocking the band...she doesn't much weight to lose but you still have to have the ability to eat "healthy" foods
You can either stop dreaming and face reality or keep dreaming & create your reality.

Sorry Im late, been busy all day.
Here is my Saturday food. The rugalah and the wrap are google pics because I have a crappy memory. I am 6 months out and feel I can eat pretty normal portions now. Certainly some tasty foods, although I am not too fancy. BTW I reccomend fresh basil to everyone!

Coffee with milk and splenda

Vitamins...shown are AM noon and PM

Breakfast.... 1/3 whole wheat bagel, 4 eggs, butter

Muster Cheese Snack

Manhattan Special Diet Espresso soda

Rugala snack, ate only one

Lunch... Munster mayo and fresh basil on a low carb WW wrap

Had another wrap as a "midnight snack"

Thanks so much for playing, Jon! You, busy? Can't imagine why.  Seriously, I know you have a lot going on with the baby, so I appreciate you taking the time to do this.

You're killing me between the rugelach and the Diet Cel-Ray in the other thread. I might have to hit up our local NY Style Deli tomorrow.

That Diet Espresso soda is intriguing. Can I ask where you get it?

I was drooling over your last post and I'm drooling over this one. And I don't even like lamb, lol! Thanks so much for doing this. It really is helpful for us pre-ops to actually see what eating like a DSer is like. I think having something like this for each surgery type would be a big benefit for those wondering which eating style they would be most comfortable with after surgery.

One of my own personal issues (which makes it far easier to eat poorly) is that I don't particularly like cooking for myself. Of course eating now is also associated with a lot of guilt, so perhaps once that gets removed from the equation, I'll find myself enjoying it more.

Karena,
I have to say that I was exactly the same way prior to surgery. I hated cooking for myself. It always seemed like...drudgery....I dunno, just wasn't something I enjoyed. I have to say that surgery made cooking a lot more fun for me now. I think reading about what others were eating here, seeing their pics, reading their recipes made cooking a lot more appealing. To think that these foods are healthy for us???? It's culinary freedom. So, don't be surprised if you find yourself enjoying it more and more! :D

I'm really glad it was helpful for you, Karena! I always loved cooking, but I love it even more now since my DS. I find that flavors are more intense for me now and I enjoy food so much more than I did before, when I was really eating more to shut up my hunger demon than anything else.

I don't always have time to cook during the week, so it's definitely possible to eat well with the DS without a lot of cooking too. I do "breakfast for dinner" a couple of times a week, and that's fast, easy and yummy. If I'm in a real rush, I'll order some buffalo wings with extra blue cheese. That used to be a guilty, OMG-I'm-eating-junk-food pleasure, and now it is actual health food.
