Atheism and obesity - Conserva(TARD)pedia

According to the Gallup Organization, "Very religious Americans are more likely to practice healthy behaviors than those who are moderately religious or nonreligious."[3]

The Gallup study gives some insight into the above average health habits of the very religious and not necessarily the health habits of atheists. The reason is that the Gallup organization defines a non-religious as a person where "Religion is not an important part of daily life and church/synagogue/mosque attendance occurs seldom or never. This group constitutes 29.7% of the adult population."[4] While many Western atheists are non-religious, not all non-religious people are atheists.

Gallup further declares:

Very religious Americans make healthier choices than their moderately religious and nonreligious counterparts across all four of the Healthy Behavior Index metrics, including smoking, healthy eating, and regular exercise. Smoking is one area of particular differentiation between the very religious and less religious Americans, with the nonreligious 85% more likely to be smokers than those who are very religious.[5] Â"

From a medical perspective, an obese person has accumulated enough body fat that it can have a negative effect on their health. If a person's weight is at least 20% higher than it should be, he/she is generally considered obese. If your Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 25 and 29.9 you are considered overweight. If your BMI is 30 or over you are considered obese.[6] The term obese can also used in a more general way to indicate someone who is overweight.[7]

Two of the major risk factors for becoming obese according to the Mayo Clinic are poor dietary choices and inactivity, thus given the above cited Gallup research, it appears as if non-religious are more prone to becoming obese than very religious individuals.[8] The Bible declares that gluttony is a sin.[9] Furthermore, the Bible declares the physical body of Christians to be temples of the Holy Spirit.[10] Therefore, it is not surprising that many very religious Christians would leave healthy lives.

Christianity is the world's largest religion and it has seen tremendous growth over its 2000 year history.[11] In the last fifty years, Christianity has recently seen explosive growth outside the Western World.[12][13][14][15] In 2000, there were twice as many non-Western Christians as Western Christians.[16] In 2005, there were four times as many non-Western Christians as there were Western Christians.[17] Of course, a big reason for the explosive growth of Christianity outside the Western world was due to highly religious people propagating the Christian faith and there are now more non-Western missionaries than Western missionaries.[18] Besides non-Westerners often being less sedentary, non-Western diets are often healthier than the diets Westerners consume and there is significantly less obesity in those non-Western cultures.[19][20][21] Therefore, in recent history Christendom has seen a large influx of very religious people who live healthy lifestyles and have low levels of obesity. For example, the noted Evangelical preacher Rick Warren recently made a public commitment to lose 90 pounds.[22] Have you seen any of the prominent atheists make such a pledge?

Lesbianism, atheism and obesity

The Bible declares lesbianism to be a sin (Romans 1:27) and lesbians have significantly higher rates of obesity.[58] Since the Bible declares gluttony and lesbianism to be sins, no doubt there are obese people and/or lesbians *****ject Christianity and decide to become atheists rather than repent and become Christians.

Atheism, obesity and self-esteem

See also: Atheism and self-esteem

There are preliminary studies indicating that individuals *****ject Christianity in Western cultures have lower self-esteem than the Christian population.[60][61] In addition, obese individuals can have lower self-esteem related to their obesity.[62] In the United States, obese people are often stereotyped as being "lazy, lacking self-discipline and being mentally slow".[63] Poor self-esteem has been linked to an increase in suicide attempts and atheists have higher rates of suicide than the general population.[64][65][66]

El toro poo poo.

If that's the case, why did Holy Girl have to have gastric bypass?   Most of the Wiccans in this area are the skinny ones.   Not Christianity.  Maybe dancing naked in the moonlight makes them think twice?

Are vegans more Christian than meat eaters.

What other either/or's did they study on?

Usefulness of Conservapedia

A recognised scholar's analysis of Conservapedia

Conservapedia is actually useful when arguing with various strains of religious fundamentalist, in ascertaining just what on earth they claim to think themselves. Of course, religious fundamentalists don't think themselves. They let their religious leaders think for them. Note that Wikipedia is also surprisingly detailed in delineating the various strains of creationist thought, should you wish to survey the rabbit hole before diving in head first.

As an encyclopedia, Conservapedia is not so useful. Whereas Wikipedia has a very broad coverage of virtually all subjects, due to having a large community of editors with diverse interests, Conservapedia operates with a small and dysfunctional community of editors, fixated with certain subjects and attitudes.

Most of the more active sysops are more interested in pursuing their various vendettas against atheism, homosexuality, the theory of evolution, the Democrats, public schools, and perceived liberal biases in the media, than in creating a diverse learning resource. There is an apparently high turnover of new editors, many of whom are either banned or soon give up on the wiki (although many of these may well be the same people signing up under an endless stream of pseudonyms), and there is a small number of devoted editors who tirelessly create detailed articles on their own individual interests.

This results in a disproportionate coverage of specialist subjects such as Japanese culture (thanks to JessicaT)[26] and Middle-earth (thanks to Tolkiendil),[27] a morbidly repetitive treatment of subjects such as atheism[28] and homosexuality[29] (largely the work of sysop Conservative), and many anti-liberal diatribes by Aschlafly himself.[30] Meanwhile coverage of more common and academic subjects is confined to either useless stub articles, or plagiarized text pasted from other source, along with a few articles or projects which have been started but obviously left unfinished and probably unnoticed.[31]

This is really just sad.  I have seen so many people like this since my surgery maybe I notice it more, but now I just want to go to them and say hey look, you can be healthy, it's not about being thin.....
She has some nice tats but so do I and I didn't show them off like this when I was fat.  I still don't like to "show off" my body, but I am more likely to wear clothes that fit.
Think of this lady and don't judge, I hated when people judged me.

Don't get me started!!!! I ahhh guess?? But when I was invited to a Baptist picnic (yeah what the heck) in Carrboro, NC a while back I don't recall seeing a "normal" sized person there. Once again the poll might have missed the boat when it comes to fat, obese, gluttonous, Baptist, Americans in Carrboro, NC or the picnickers weren't "VERY" religious. In short Christians for the most part give Christianity a bad name.
