Have you reached your "sweet spot"? - I don't think there's such a thing
How long have you been banded? - 2 years January 28th
How much have you lost? 65
Can you eat a variety of healthy foods? Yes -
Have you gone through fills & unfills never finding a happy medium? - Yes, the last two fills resulted in two unfills
Do you PB? - I did very often, yes
Keep your Band tight? - Hell no
Have acid reflux? - No I didn't
Night cough? - No
Has your Band slipped? - Hope not
Have you had a dilation - specify stomach or esophagus? - Doubt it
Do you have pain? - Sometimes
Have you had your Band removed? If so any damage to any other organs? - Not yet removed
Have you revised - to what surgery? It's in the works
Any other experience you'd like to tell us about? It's too easy to break the rules with the band. You can only be "perfect" for so long before the devil takes over your brain. It's just too easy to cheat. And don't hand me that "It's a life-style change" bull**** - we're all human and we will all cheat at some point. (Not my quote but I agree)
Would you recommend the Band? For people with 75 pounds or less to lose, yes. More than that, no.
Have you reached your "sweet spot"? After my third fill at 3 months I did
How long have you been banded? 2 1/2 years
How much have you lost? I had lost 112 pounds in 10 months
Can you eat a variety of healthy foods? Nope, never could
Have you gone through fills & unfills never finding a happy medium? That started at 1 year out
Do you PB? I did all the time. Even now that I have no fluid in my band I still PB
Keep your Band tight? Just tight enough at 5 cc's in a 10 cc band but never too tight
Have acid reflux? Never
Night cough? Never
Has your Band slipped? Yes, twice
Have you had a dilation - specify stomach or esophagus? I had a slight esophogeal dilation
Do you have pain? I always had pain in my port area and it always hurt when solid protein went down
Have you had your Band removed? If so any damage to any other organs? Not yet, hopefully within the next month
Have you revised - to what surgery? Not yet, hopefully within the next month to the VSG
Any other experience you'd like to tell us about? My port flipped a few months after being banded and I always had pain in that area, I could never go out to dinner with clients because I never knew whether or not I would have to run to the bathroom to PB or throw up my food. I had 3 different times when I had a small fill (1cc or less) in the morning and that night I wouldn't be able to swallow my saliva. After my first small slip I had all the fluid removed from my band for 3 weeks, had an esophagram which showed that it went back into place so he filled my band (3cc's I think). I was okay for about 2 weeks and then started throwing up my food again, went back and showed I had another slip. My surgeon wanted to fix my band but I said no, enough is enough, I'm done with the band. It's time for the sleeve.
Would you recommend the Band? I don't think so. I so have a few friends who have bands that are still working for them after 4 years or so and I'm thankful for that but they are in the minority. Most people I know or know of with bands have had either awful experiences or just didn't have the weight loss they expected. No WLS is perfect, but after having over a year and a half of problems with my band, I feel as though I lost my weight because I was either on liquids half the time or throwing up the other half, which is not how the band is supposed to work.
Are you currently on your Band journey? YES
Have you reached your "sweet spot"? I am at a very comfortable restriction so I guess that could be considered a "sweet spot".
How long have you been banded? 16 months
How much have you lost? 83 pounds
Can you eat a variety of healthy foods? Yes
Have you gone through fills & unfills never finding a happy medium? No problems
Do you PB? once when I ate some crackers too fast
Keep your Band tight? No
Have acid reflux? No. I had this before surgery, but the band cured that.
Night cough? No.
Has your Band slipped? No
Have you had a dilation - specify stomach or esophagus? No.
Do you have pain? No.
Have you had your Band removed? If so any damage to any other organs? No
Have you revised - to what surgery? N/A
Any other experience you'd like to tell us about? I love my band and I have no problem working together with my doctor - the check-ups and fills keep me secure in knowing that any problem I may have can be handled quickly. I have NEVER had any problems.
Would you recommend the Band? Yes. I am happy with my band, so much so, I encouraged my sister to have it. She is doing well also. Before having WLS you should always research the pros and cons before making your decision. The lapband has given me a lot of control and I am willing to limit my calories and exercise for my weight loss - I've been doing that for years, but the band has helped me succeed this time.
Are you currently on your Band journey? Yes
Have you reached your "sweet spot"? Um idk
How long have you been banded? It will be 3 years 2/14/11
How much have you lost? -59 lbs
Can you eat a variety of healthy foods? Yes
Have you gone through fills & unfills never finding a happy medium? Not really
Do you PB? I use to in the beginning
Keep your Band tight? No
Have acid reflux? No
Night cough? No
Has your Band slipped? No
Have you had a dilation - specify stomach or esophagus? No
Do you have pain? No
Have you had your Band removed? If so any damage to any other organs? No
Have you revised - to what surgery? No
Any other experience you'd like to tell us about? I like my band, its almost got me to goal I probably wouldn't be where I an now without it
Would you recommend the Band? Not really, its not for everyone.
Have you reached your "sweet spot"? I'm not sure there is such a thing, or if there is, it changes as weight is lost. I'm satisfied for 4 to 5 hours on 3oz of protein & 1/2 cup veggies. Sometimes even longer than 5 hours.
How long have you been banded? 22 months
How much have you lost? 180lbs
Can you eat a variety of healthy foods? Oh yes.
Have you gone through fills & unfills never finding a happy medium? NO. One unfill only so far. My fills are very small and I like it that way. I may have to go in more often, but I also don't have huge learning curves after each band adjustment.
Do you PB? Only when I'm stupid and eat too fast. (I'm not saying that others who have and have had issues with frequent PB'ing are being stupid or foolish.. I'm speaking of my own experience only).
Keep your Band tight? It's not a strangulation device.
Have acid reflux? Nope.
Night cough? Nope.
Has your Band slipped? Don't think so, no symptoms of slippage.
Have you had a dilation - specify stomach or esophagus? See above.
Do you have pain? From my band or port? No. I have the normal aches & pains associated with aging and life in general.. lol
Have you had your Band removed? If so any damage to any other organs? N/A
Have you revised - to what surgery? N/A
Any other experience you'd like to tell us about? I went into this knowing it wasn't a magic band.. that I would have to be an active participant in any weight loss. I had more than one doctor tell me I would only lose 50 lbs or so with the band. I enjoy proving them wrong. :) My husband wanted me to get RNY.. I didn't. I stood my ground and got the surgery that I felt was right for me. I was (and still am) afraid of malabsorption because of other health issues I have had in the past.
Would you recommend the Band? Depends on the individual and their situation. All I can do is relate that it has helped me curb my appetite/hunger so that I can make better choices most of the time. No one surgery is perfect for everyone.
Great post! Thank you!
Are you currently on your Band journey? yes

How much have you lost? 90 lbs

Have you gone through fills & unfills never finding a happy medium? no
Do you PB? rarely, and when it happens, it's because of my own carelessness
Keep your Band tight? no
Have acid reflux? only when I was too tight
Night cough? only when I was too tight
Has your Band slipped? yes - we think because of my untreated hiatal hernia
Have you had a dilation - specify stomach or esophagus? no
Do you have pain? not from my band
Have you had your Band removed? If so any damage to any other organs? N/A
Have you revised - to what surgery? N/A
Any other experience you'd like to tell us about? Well yes, but it's too much to fit in an OH post, so think about buying my book, Bandwagon, to get the whole story.
Would you recommend the Band? yes, but it's not for everyone. We're so lucky because we have so many WLS options

Have you reached your "sweet spot"? :)) Well can I say it comes and goes?!
How long have you been banded? since 2004! 7 yrs!
How much have you lost? the first year the band helped me shed 70 pounds! and then the rest was my own clevernace! although the band just was there as a tool but no magic work as some think it will do! It was hard sweety work that got me from 368 POUNDS to 235 POUNDS
Can you eat a variety of healthy foods? NOP! No grilled chiken or any form of chicken! no meat no veggies no fruits! except for tangerine sometimes.. My only resort was fish and sashimi!!
Have you gone through fills & unfills never finding a happy medium? Well no never unfilled! was never too tight! or too loose:)
Do you PB? seriously I dont know what that is!! read it a lot on the board but never got its meaning:D
Keep your Band tight? it is good!
Have acid reflux? nop
Night cough?nop
Has your Band slipped? nop thank GOD
Have you had a dilation - specify stomach or esophagus? nop
Do you have pain? sometimes shoulder and side pain from the port
Have you had your Band removed? If so any damage to any other organs? nop thank GOD
Have you revised - to what surgery? considering it soon!! have been plateauing for so long .. thinking of getting a sleeve! I need to live like a normal person who can eat healthy food:) and a variety of it! not only fish!
Any other experience you'd like to tell us about? It is been a bless !!! but its time to move on:) I would never ever though it would have rescued me from myself that much! I was a heavy eater! love to have a big tray of different kind of food infront me! I use to waste my money on food! Now I learned not to order what I cant eat! which is nothing compared to before! Although ITS EXTEREMLY easy to cheat around ur band! so it is ur willpower that u will start buidling that will carry u throught this hard time! other than that the band will never be a success! Alhough I never reached my goal weight with it .. I will never curse it or hate it! it changed alot of my mental habbits of eating and it opened the path to my new surgery which I believe I will have no trouble adapting to it! I can now wait before and after meal to drink! althought that was a huge problem for me, I always felt thirsty but now I am used to it.. I know my way to exercise .. I know how to handle a gain! before a gain was just a number that I will keep beating untill I am double the number on my scale. I never gained more than 10LBS with my band..
Would you recommend the Band? NO. Not for anyone who has more than 70 pounds to lose!!
