sounds like your start in your mind is off to a good start.
Let me be clear. I NEVER SAID NO CARBS.

We have choices.... unhealthy choices for our small intake or we can choose poorly with foods that are not good for us.

why put the craving back in our body?  you actually mean to tell me your planning to eat the cake after you heal?   well then perhaps this thinking is taking a left turn.

baby steps i guess. Please make sure you talk about this to your face to face support what your planning to do.

DONT EAT THE CAKE.. WHY TRY IT....    substitute it wish something else....

WHY TRY IT????

After a lifetime of having an unhealthy relationship with food, eating more than anyone I know, and thinking about food ALL the time (whether I was dieting or not)... I took this drastic step not only to fit into smaller clothes, but to take steps towards being NORMAL.  Normal activity level, normal eating habits.  In the long run (and I don't know right now exactly what that means for time - could be a year, maybe two or three?  I bet someone here could tell me!), I want to eat like my normal weight and normally healthy friends.  A meal, but not 3 people's worth at a sitting (that is actually the #1 thing that appealed to me about the surgery).  A dessert occasionally, but not several sweets every day and eating them in place of some meals.  A piece of cake at a birthday party won't kill me; eating the ENTIRE cake over 2-3 days was going to.

I can have regular everyday substitutes; or just skip them altogether (my plan actually says 3 meals/day no snacks).  I can eat yogurt instead of pudding, switch to 1% milk and low fat cheese, and plan most of my meals to be high protein low calorie.  Then, when the office is celebrating, I can definitely join in once in a while.

I went to my first support group meeting on Monday, and was happy to see just how supportive they all are!  Some can eat sugar, some can't.  Some are still trying to lose, others are several years out and are now maintaining.  Some are very athletic and eating 100% healthy foods,  embracing their surgery and taking the opportunity to become great at running, lifting weights, etc.  Others are sticking to walking and the Fit TV or their Wii fit for exercise, doing what they need to but otherwise basically living their lives - eating well 95% of the time, enjoying social events and celebrations, and loving life.  ALL of these people are successful - there is not one model for "success" after WLS.

Your plan of not trying the sweets is not wrong either; it is your attitude that your way is the ONLY way, and everyone else is wrong, that is rubbing many people the wrong way.

Unfortunately the reality of WLS is the weight comes off so fast without trying that sometimes we forget it is a tool not a forever answer.

If we go back to old habits and foods ie....  cake,   the weight will eventually come back.   Once your  body gets used to the lower calories and amounts it still takes everyday thought and choices to stay where you want to be.

I learned this the hard way and am so happy to have a second chance to do this right.    My biggest fear is that I will forget how easy it is to gain weight and start gaining again after this surgery.
You need to really look inside yourself and try to remember why you did this in the first place,    instead of thinking about what you cant have, start looking at what you can have....

define eat around your surgery.

Pre-op i was all full of myself that I would NEVER do this that or the other.  I've done all of that.

I've puked from eating too fast or not chewing well enough
I've eaten cookies
I've eaten pasta, rice and bread
I've had sugar
I've had alcohol
I've had cake

on the other hand:

i have 80-100  g of protein every day
I do not eat and drink at the same time or drink for at least 30 minutes after my food
I get all my supplements daily or at least every other day (if i Miss iron I double up the next day)
I get a minimum 64 oz of non-caffeine fluids most days
I exercise most weeks 3 times a week with 30 minutes of walking and an hour of yoga

I saw my doctor a few days ago.  I told him I eat cookies.   but not a whole box ONE OR TWO

ya know what he said???

He said  "that's perfectly fine".... ya know why?   because I LIVE A NORMAL LIFE now and once in a while folks who are "naturally" thin eat a cookie or two....

there is NO eating "around" my surgery...   there is only living....

why do you eat the cookies and not something with nutrition?
Are you justifying? Perhaps you can eat one cookie once in awhile but MOST CANT!!!

Good for you you can eat cookies.

if you READ MY POST I SAID:
Anyhow, My surgery is FEB 1st.   I hope and hope and hope I DONT EAT AROUND MY SURGERY...

I fear this bc I am a sugar and carb addict. I am so working with a sponser and steps, seeing a therapistm going to group meetings, and talking about it.

I see i trigger a lot of responses and welcome each and everyone of them.  but people start replying with YOU and blame as if I am one way...  well then I see that person may be the sick one.

I hope and honestly hope you do live a NORMAL LIFE and you have this thing licked and under your belt.  GOD BLESS YOU

Well I didn't even eat cookies till I was nearly a year out... and then I ate ONE and it was the most incredible cookie ever...

as for eating something with nutrition:

what part of I get 80-100 g of protein a day did you miss?
I eat fruits and veggies as I can but most of them do not sit well with my very grouchy pouch.

I miss a good salad.  I miss chicken...

and I'm not sure what you think I have to justify.

IF you go into this with an all or nothing mentality you will surely fail... because YOU WILL eat SOMETHING somewhere down the line that is not  the  "perfect nutritional  food"

and most of the RNYers I know that are a year out or more DO eat cookies and CUPCAKES... maybe ONE bite...   but they EAT it.    Obviously you will have to wait for the next OH conference to see the next intall ment of CUPCAKE PORN!

Are you a troll?  I ask this sincerely.

You're a troll or you're not ready for this surgery.  This surgery will NOT fix your brain, and your posts here suggest that your brain needs far more work than your digestive system does.

If you're not trolling with this kind of bull**** please seriously reconsider getting surgery in less than a month.  I find it hard to believe your surgeon's Psychiatrist would have ushered you forward for surgery if he or she knew you have such harsh reactions to very simple comments about food.
