B12 and Folate Deficiencies in VSG

part of the problem on the boards maybe because is its world wide, and while many surgeons in america may promote using vitamins this is not the case in all countries, i have been to other boards where all they are told to take is a good multi and as far as i know some places do not even test for deficiencies...

I have been told when bringing it up that it was an "american" thing that the drug companies were the ones doing the tests to make money...

while i personally do not have any deficiencies at this point who knows what the next labs will tell me... im not stupid enough to think that they can cut away 85 percent of my stomach and think im taking on enough nutrients to keep healthy especially considering 90 percent of the time its all protein that im eating.

I personally have seen people get pissy with you . for everyone that might block you, its the ones that don't post but read that you maybe helping.

That's actually quite amusing since, for most of us, the lab that runs the actual tests has no idea whether or not we've ever had surgery what type of surgery, etc. All they do is labs. But, yes, blame the Americans  :P

I'm not aware of any drug companies testing for nutritional deficiencies.  I get my labs done at a medical lab, not a drug company.

But who cares, really, who does the test?  If you have deficiencies, you have deficiencies.  Doesn't matter where you get the test done.

My iron is low and i was taking Vita Lady's tender iron with vitamin C. Now I am on some other iron I got from her after a long talk with her.

I will be better about taking my b12 sublingual. I do take a b complex.

This is all so confusing . I take so much stuff ,and I just got my labs done again and I am  low all over the place. My vit D 3 went down from 80 to 60 and i am taking the 50,000 a week.

Ok, well I'm not any kind of a freakin' cowgirl and have never been to Vegas, but a couple of weeks before I went for my first BIG (eleven tubes!) post-op bloods I slacked on purpose with my vitamins. I did this because I know that there are times when I may slack and wanted to see how it would affect my levels. Even with my little gamble, being a fairly new post-op, all my tests came back good with the exception of my vitamin D which was 26 (range was 30-100). I know that time is the real test.

And I know from reading the sleeve board for the past  20 months that people's health changes despite being rockstars in the beginning. Last year I started with gummy vitamins (yikes) and started getting a little more educated on them and other supplements.

Tonight I just ordered 136 bucks worth of vitamins from Vitalady. I want to switch over to injectable vitamin B as well and need to do research on how to get it. I didn't mention it, but I hate taking pills (just like 90% of most WLSers).

This is a great topic and I thank Andrea for the article and her dedication to this wonderful mixed community of surgically altered freaks
