I laugh every time I think about this. My family and I were enjoying a lovely Thanksgiving feast in the dining room. We are laughing and telling stories. My dad says he would love some pumpkin pie, so my mom and I go out to the kitchen get the pie. We have always taken the pie to the table so that everyone can get the size they want. However, this year, we had to serve from the kitchen with the whipped cream on the end of the pie piece, rather than on top. Why? Because my cat had eaten a perfect circle in the middle of the pumkin pie! We never told anyone until a few years later!!

Having the tradition of making little eatible turkeys through the years and now making them with my grandchildren. Ritz cracker is the tail take melted hershey bar and I use a spoon dab the chocolate for glue to attach a chocolate creme drop off center to the cracker to form the body. Then take a candy corn and glue it to the top edge of the chocolate drop to form the head/beak. Then glue a chocolate star to the bottom of the chocolate drop to form the feet. We lay the crackers out on cookie sheets and form a production line. If put together right when dry they will stand up and each has a personality. I learned to make these years ago in Chicage when my kids were little . Everyone enjoys them because they are fun to make and yummy to eat. Ingredients needed: round snack crackers size of a Ritz, bags of creme filled chocolate drops. candy corn, chocolate stars hershey bar melted. Make as many as you like they are addicting to make . Happy Thanksgiving From Our House to Yours!!!

My favorite memory would be Thanksgiving of 2009. I had my VSG that previous June and some unexpected medical issues were discovered resulting in numerous post-op surgeries and a feeding tube. The feeding to was removed October 5th but I still had trouble eating. Nothing solid would stay down so I was living on protein shakes and applesauce. Hunny and I went to visit his Aunt and Uncle in Georgia about 6 hours away for Thanksgiving. We had not seen them since his Mother's passing some 8 years earlier. We arrived Wednesday night in time for dinner but I had my trusty shakes. His Aunt and Uncle prayed that I would be able to join them in eating Thanksgiving dinner the next day. Also I had been unable to sleep in our bed at home due to reflux issues. I slept in a recliner. They asked me if I wanted a recliner moved into the bedroom but I didn't want to put them to any more trouble so I said no. That night I slept in the bed with my Husband for the first time since coming out of the hospital in July. He told his Aunt and Uncle that I had not snored or gurgled all night! As a matter of fact I was sleeping so peacefully that he had to check to see if I was breathing several times. Thanksgiving day at diner the grace was centered on me being able to eat a little something. My Husband's Aunt asked me to put a little on a plate and at least try. I was reluctant for fear that it would come back up but I agreed to try. I put 4 tablespoons of food on a plate. Mashed potatoes, dressing, sweet potato casserole and beans. I tried the first small bite, waited and nothing happened. I managed to eat it all and kept it down. I also had an 1/8th of a slice of pumpkin pie w/ cool whip later that afternoon and managed to eat it as well (minus the crust). I was able to eat a little each day we were there and each day after. I was so thankful that my life no longer revolved around protein shakes and I was back to actually eating.
I associate Thanksgiving with my grandmother, my mother and I lived with my grandparents after my parents divorced when I was still very young. My grandmother was a wonderful cook and every thanksgiving she made two big fat stuffed chickens, yup chickens, I don't recall my grandmother ever cooking turkey she liked chicken better and it was always plump and juicy and yummy. My grandmother never really sat and ate, she hovered around the table making sure everyone else had what they wanted, everything was homemade and terrific, obviously I liked to eat even as a youngster and grammies goodies were always wonderful. The year after my grandmother passed away my grandfather was sick and me and my mother were left to eat alone, we went to the local casino and it was so crowded my mother wanted to opt for chinese food, but I just couldn't do it, my grandmother would be rolling over in her grave if my mother and I didn't eat traditional thanksgiving food, I made her stand in line and we finally got to eat, it was terrible of course and I have never had a good thanksgiving since and I doubt I ever will.
There are so many fond Thanksgiving memories. Most center around the Turkey. Every year, my dad would carve the bird and say "Who wants the part that went over the fence last?" It never got old. I also remember one year when my dad complained about something on the menu which my mom worked so hard to prepare. So she poured a bag of flour over his head! I think even he laughed.
