Yup, most sugar alcohols are pure evil - watch out especially for sorbitol and maltitol, as those are used very frequently. The only safe one I've found is erythritol, but most foods aren't made with that because it's more expensive, so I buy bags of it to use for baking at home.
Years ago, I went on a work trip to San Antonio. I bought some sugar free candy and sugar free little snack bars for the long trip. By the time I got there, the rest of my colleagues enjoyed an evening on the Riverwalk while I enjoyed the bathroom of my hotel room!
