You are a success, and that's great, but you were a lightweight. A size 16/18 is not a size 30. The band is not recommended for people with a high bmi, because it often won't work for them. You did a great, job, though, and should be very proud of your accomplishment. Keeping it off for 3+ years is great.

Wow! I can't believe all the angry or mean post. I feel I've been very successful. I've had the band for almost three years and it has changed my life. I'm training to run a marathon and I'm in the best shape of my life. I went from a 16/18 to a size 4. There are lots of us out there living healthy with the band and have never had any issues. I'm living proof. Best wishes to anyone who travels down the wls road. We are all fighting this good fight no matter what our surgery choice is or was.
I ran the half marathon last year. I'm the one on the right (Jennifer on race bib). I was given my life back thanks to the band!

Haven't seen you in a long time.  How are you doing?

I had Lap-Band Surgery Sept. 4th 2008,  I have lost 122 pounds.  I lost it in 11 months.  I  went from a size 24 down to a size 4.

I feel great and have some much energy.  Yes the Lap-Band does work, but you have to follow  Protocol from your Doctor, and keep up with fills when you start getting hungry.

Protein, Vitamins, and Fluids are so important.  I can not stress how important this is , each and every day.

Hope this helps,
Deborah

See ticker I would have to call that a success story. I have had no problem with my band but did ALOT of research for over 5 years. I heard alot of horror stories regarding ALL surgery types. The band was very new when I started researching so being in the medical field for 20 years I knew the margin for error and learning curve would be very high which is one reason why I waited so long and made sure I went to a surgeon that had done thousands of bands.
The best thing I can tell you is do lots and lots of research and know yourself and what you are willing to put into this because NO WLS is the cure, just a tool and I do have to agree with some of the bandbashers (having several family members with GB). LB is definitely slower and more work. But after 1-2 years my family members with GB stopped losing and have gained weight back and 2 years later I am still losing.

            Esophagus dilation
Third year I go to Weigh****chers and lose 62lbs
             4th year, I'm a size 6/8
5th year   esophagus dilation again.  Complete unfill does not resolve this condition this   time around.  I'm fighting to maintain my weight like crazy.  I am officially a size 10 . . .  and some 12's

5.5 yrs - unfilled and waiting to be unbanded and converted to a  Vertical Sleeve Imbrication/ Plication possibly Gastrectomy.

I love my band and would have another if I could.  The thing is, it does not work for me anymore and never will.  Unlike some others, I am thrilled that I chose the Band first.  No regrets, it just doesn't last forever like some would preach.

I have never puked nor had a poor quality of life as some confess.  I wasn't constantly stuck and embarrassed at outings.  My life was and is very normal with the Band.

WLS is a very personal choice.  Again if I knew I would have better luck with the new softer AP bands I would not hesitate being re-banded.  My esophagus apparently hates the band period as I have never kept a tight band nor done any of the stuff people claim gives you a dilated esophagus..

Good Luck with whatever you chose.

It is good for you to hear all sides of the coin.  Remember that not a single surgery that is offered is perfect.  Not a single WLS or surgery for that matter guarantees you will have an easy complication free journey.

Hmmm??? Thousands of members on OH... Only 7 people posting favorable results fron their band??? Red flag???

Try posting the same question for DS or RNY and see how many positive responses you get for those.

That should give you a clue as to what really works.

Maybe because they are afraid of comments from those who make their writing BOLD to get across the fact that they think their surgery is the only surgery. Or maybe because those with bands don't feel the need to preach all the time.  Too bad you couldn't be nicer and offer all sides like Ms Batt below you.  She at least gives just facts and tells a person to research them all.

I don't understand. How was LaShell being rude???

Also, why is she suppose to offer all sides? The post topic is "anyone have info on lap band results". She posted the results she is familiar with concerning the lap band!
