Several years ago, the Singles' group at our church had a Hallowe'en Party with a Best Costume contest.  I invited a friend of mine to go along with me, as he was also single.  We came up with the idea that I would wear an Army camo jacket and he would wear the Army camo pants.  Together, we were an Upper and Lower G.I.

Hey!!  We won the prize!!

Back even further, when my oldest son was about 3 and I was pregnant and bedridden with my youngest son, I couldn't go out shopping for a costume.  I found a square box -- about 14" square, painted it white and drew black dots on it to look like a dice.  I cut a hole in the top for his head to go through and a hole in two sides for his arms.  He wore black sweatpants and hoodie and went as a single dice.  The neighbors LOVED him.  And it fit him perfectly.

My husband HATES to dress up for halloween...he never does. We don't go to many halloween parties, so it was nbd...this year though, with the 30th on Saturday, the neighborhood is having a party. All our kids are big kids now, most are highschool and college with a couple younger ones, so it's the adults time to party.
I brought home some scrubs from the hospital for my hubby. I'll get him a surgery mask and some gloves. He'll wear my stethoscope around his neck. Pretty easy for him. I was trying to think what I could go as to pair up with him, I didn't want it to just be another Dr.or Nurse - too plain for me!
Soooo....I am going as his patient...a very sick/dying patient. I will be in a hospital gown...pale/grey face and arms. I'll be bleeding from my eyes, ears, nose and mouth. My daughter, who was in theatre in school is going to help with some makeup to make sores on my arms and face. I'll have a icky looking IV site....basically I'll be my own nightmare as a real life nurse!!!
My fave as a kid: Back when the movie "Jaws" came out, my neighbor made a shark costume for me and her son.
My own kids fave: my son has gone as a chicken two different times. Pretty fun to make and see him as a chicken!! lol

I would not call this really creative, but a wow for me.  I wore my 17 year old daughters pageantry (tall flag) costume.  I figured with all the money we put in them I may as well put them to use.  It was a party for the team, and to be honest the girls LOVED it.  My daughter did my hair and makeup, I looked just like them ready for a show.  I had several parents compliment me on how good I looked as they have been with my throughout my journey.  Denise~

For 9 yrs.straight I went out as a bottle of Corona Beer,I made the head piece out of a re-inforced popcorn box, with the lime and foam coming out of the top.My sewing machine ws broken so everything was Stitch-Witcheryed.Well I spent about $25 on the costume and over the years I've won over $1500 dollars in prize money.I'd go to a different club every year,so nobody would see it twice!! This year my boyfriend (yes I've got a boyfriend!!!!!) and I are going out as Medusa and he will be a Roman soldier,I've turned to stone.I've been hand sewing rubber snakes on my wig for a week now,and practicing putting on snake eye contact lens.My boyfriend is such a sport,he is letting me paint his entire body cement gray (well just the parts that show) and I made him a centurion costume,he looks totally hot in!!
Anybody who knows me,knows how competitive I am about Halloween costumes,I believe I'm going to win again!!!

Great ideas out there.. I may have to steal a few.

I have won for most creative a few times in my heftier days.. I couldn't fit into store bought costumes, so I came up with things on my own.

One year I went as a "serial (cereal) killer"  I wore a white shirt and jeans, made my face pale and pinned mini cereal boxes to myself that had plastic knives stabbed into them and blood painted all over them and me.   (can't find the pic)

Another year, simple simple simple... I was static cling.. wore sweat pants and shirt and pinned dryer sheets and a bunch of my daughter's little girl clothes and washcloths to me.  (no pic)

Two years ago, I went as a deviled egg.  I cut out a sunny side egg from poster board and made it like one of those signs that drape over you (front and back).  Then, I wore devil horns, tail, and bow tie.

Last year, I finally fit into a store bought costume and was a cave girl... no prize won except all of the looks at the new sexy me!!

This year I am wearing a pirate maiden costume that my now 12 year old daughter wore 2 years ago.. what?!? I fit into something a 10 year old wore???    (this my daughter in it)

One year, a very pregnant co-worker came dressed as a big-bellied sheriff, complete with western hat, badge and big belt buckled under her tummy.  I thought she was so clever!

My father's an artist so we always had to make our costumes. One year I went as a carton of A&P brand milk - A&P's milk cartons had vertical red & white stripes so I wore my sister's red & white striped hip-huggers (it was the 70's) with a big box shaped & painted like a milk carton.
