Hi Jessy,

I am 10.5 months out.

First: no diarreah. some gas, but always due to food choices.

I was a lightweight. 5'8.5 and 262 lbs. Today I weigh 142 lbs and I am still loosing.

I wore a size 3x. Today I wear a size 4 and XS.

And by the way I am 52 years old.

My story is on my blog here on OH.

My DS is going to work for me for life. I have a weight above which I will not go. If I start to inch up towards it (150) I will decrease the carbs until I loose a few lbs.

I could have never ever lived the RnY lifestyle. I do not do well with limitations on what I eat. I like to eat and I like to eat a variety of foods. And I like to eat a lot of food. The DS allows me to eat protein all day long and still loose weight. I enjoy the following:
steak, chicken, ribs, shrimp, crab, hamburger
BACON, sausage, eggs
cheese, lunch meat, beef jerky
nuts, almonds, popcorn, rice cakes, pork rinds
Loaded baked potatoes. Salads loaded with protein toppings (no croutons)
Fast food: Chick Fil-A nuggets and strips
Hardee's Low Carb Burger
Wendy's: chili, baconater (no bun)
KFC: DOUBLE DOWN!! Extra crispy dark meat

I travel a LOT and have to carry my food for the day. I load up a small lunch box with protein snacks, makings for ham/cheese/mayo wraps, etc... Then when I am driving I can stop at any of those fast food places and get more to eat!!!

I take my vites/supplements according to VitaLady's plan and my labs. I drink a LOT of flavored water.

The DS changed my life and my only regret is not doing it 30 years ago.

Becky...I am confused...you always say the RNY lifestyle...what do you mean by that?

I eat a high protein/low carb diet like you.

I eat steak, chicken, ribs, shrimp, crab, hamburger, bacon, sausage, eggs, cheese, lunch meat, beef jerky, nuts, almonds, cashews. popcorn, pork rinds( not a fan of rice cakes).

Potato with cheese and bacon bits, Salad with lots of protein on top(even a few croutons)

I love Chick Fil-A nuggets

I eat everything you do.  Now, I don't eat the quantity you may eat, but I eat the same kinds of things.

I can pretty much find something to eat on any menu...

I take my supplements and drink my water...

I am just curious what you mean about the RNY lifestyle?

I'm referring to what I've been told by RNYers at support group meetings that they eat. Extremely limited calories, high levels of exercise, low fat everything (so no bacon, no butter), unable to eat dense protein (no steak, no chicken), dumping problems prohibiting even the occasional indulgence (no chocolate? heaven forbid), and not drinking with meals.

Even what I see people posting that they eat on the main board What did you eat today? threads seem like RNYers barely eat anything.

I'm glad you are able to eat a variety of proteins!! That just hasn't been what I've heard from RNYers that I've met.

Maybe it has to do with how far out from surgery you/they are? Dunno.

Did you research all of the surgeries prior to having your DS.  If you had, you would have learned that we have the same kind of diet you do.  High protein/low carbs. We just don't require as much fats in our diet as you do..but we still can and do have fats. You may have met a few people that have certain issues...but you can't make a blanket statement that those few people you have met are the "RNY Lifestyle".

We all have our personal preferences as to what we eat...that goes for you and me and the people you see on the main board.  You can't just assume it is the same for everyone.

We all just try to get good information out there for newbies...just trying to clear up some confusion on the RNY post op diet.

I don't think anyone is confused. I think you are tying to say that the information I learned is untrue.

I told you where I got my information. Multiple support group meetings made up of 99% RNYers, 1% banders and me.

Of course I researched the RNY and the RNY LIFESTYLE is one of the main reasons I chose the DS.

Do I have to repeat myself?

RNY Lifestyle:
Low fat. Low calorie. Low volume. Dumping. Problems with dense protein (stuck foods). No fluids with meals. Excessive complaints about regain. Intense amounts of exercise. A lifetime of severe restriction and dieting.

That is what I've learned about the RNY Lifestyle.

If it isn't YOUR lifestyle then fine. But that doesn't mean that it isn't what I LEARNED from the people in the support groups I attended.

You have first hand knowledge of the DS...that is the information you should be getting out there and sharing with preops....You shouldn't spread second hand information to newbies who are researching surgeries.
