I am about 5 years out and have gained back about 30lbs that I am desperate to loose. I am thinking about starting out with the Master Cleanse (lemonaid diet) for about 12 days then starting back at the begining of the post surgery eating recomendations. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks,
Leslie

It is not at all a good idea...and certainly not for 12 days!!!!!  You are still malabsorptive - so doing anything to drastically increase that dynamic isn't smart.   Do it - if you must - for two days.........so you feel like you're doing something.......and then go back to basics - protein first etc.    Any of the products that rush things through the GI - including Alli and other products are contraindicated in postop RNY and DS patients.

Are you exercising?!?!   I'm battling 7 pounds.......and while I'm focusing on eating far less in terms of refined carbs - including fruit - I"m concentrating a great deal more on ramping up my workouts.  We're pretty much like everybody else in this regard.  If you want to lose weight you have to eat less and exercise more.   We have the advantage of not being able to eat huge portions.......but the process is the same.   I also find being on OH daily really helps me stay mindful about things.......it's easy to drift away and take for granted the gift of WLS.....and staying close to people at all levels of the process - from frustrated preops who are doing everything they can to get approved....to new postops struggling to meet protein goals to the old timers  at various levels of maintenance struggle (or not).......the whole thing stays more 'real' in my head.    Good luck to you.   Susan

You are so right Susan!  Here Here!  I'm having problems right now with burping and bloating and flatulance (farting)...I have been off glutens and tried many things over this past year including a specialist.  He gave me antibiotics then looked at me like a dear in the headlights..I could be gluten intolerant caused by surgery.  Go back on glutens for 2 weeks and take a test..well then I read you have to be on glutens for 3 months before the test Imagine that!  I've had 3 good quiet days when I first stopped but then I screwed up and have to start again.  I'm going to try Mark Hymans 6 weeks to better health..but I'm adding some Alaskan wild salmon to up the protein content.  I'm not having pain or anything it's just 7/8 time flatulance dry 1/8  terrible.  I have tried probiotics and antibiotics and gasx and beano ...took out the dairy but this will definitely take out the dairy since I love cheese.  I keep bouncing up and down in weight ...It's crazy since the gluten things are calorie dense.  I am exercising alot curves and swimming..probably need to increase tho.  Take care Patty

Thanks for the reply.

I am fully absorbing and have been for the last 3 years or so. I absorb so well that I don't even have to take the supplements anymore.  I get a full work up every year, Niacin, and bone included and everything is very, very normal.

I work out 5 days a week both cardio and weights but the weight still came on, I even run 5ks when I have time.

I know it's the food part not the excercise. I hate the cravings for carbs!! Thats what kills me if only there were an excelent carb blocker out there that would be great.

I did that a few times before WLS.  I would never recommend that cleanse post op - no matter how many years post op and what surgery you had.

What you can try  is to do a 5 DPT - or simmilar - limit simple - and starchy carbs,. and concentrate on proteins and green veggies.  With some helthy fats.  No soft drinks, taking all vitamins that are required.

Hi Leslie,

I'm 15 years out and Yes, I have done the Master Cleanse 12 day fast once and now I only do a 3 or 5 days version of it. You will lose 10-12 lbs but you will quickly gain it back if you do not have a plan to keep it off. I use the fast to "reset" my body and mind when I've gotten off track, (i.e. Holidays, Vacations, etc.). When I come off the fast I'm free from cravings and its so much easier to go back to my high protein / clean foods eating plan.

What is the 5 DPT? Can you direct me to info on it?
