"Fat Cow" in the pool (help!)

I cannot really offer any great safe zones; however, I know that the water aerobics classes that I attend is for anyone and everyone.  I also have my own pool so that makes it a lot easier for pre and post op. The other option is to join a swim group that is structured for pre and post op.  For example, I know an Aqua Therapist in Orange County California that has pre and post ops (Resa Hempfling [email protected])
Hugs to all pre and post ops and may you continue on your amazing wls journey.

It sure is good C'ING LESS OF ME!

We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
& all are different colors....but they

ALL exist very nicely in the same box.

Before I had weight loss surgery I went to the YMCA for water aerobics classes.  I was usually the youngest one there, however the senior citizens did not make me feel like I was out of place.

I know how this lady feels when I was about 19 years old I was laying on the beach at the causway in FL and a car load of boys road by and screamed "Beached Whale"!!! I thought I was going to die!!!

But, you know things do change, I now go to the pool in a bikini (with the scars from having redundant skin removed and all).  I hold my head high and feel good about the way I look!  It took a lot of years to feel this way....but you too can feel this way!  Just keep working towards your goal and never stop!

I have heard that all my life... from adults and kids alike... makes me sick.
Around where I am I do have a pool that is mostly used by seniors.. and I am the youngest at 57!

I live in a mobile home park and our park is strict about  no toys, floats, etc. I am darn short at 4'9 and even in the 5 foot end it is over my head... which is ok. but here is the deal. They will not allow a "noodle" in the pool. Do you think if I asked my physician for a note, would they have to? I really would like to walk in the pool which is easiest when you use the noodle. Do they have a obligation to let me if it is for medial reasons.... ie. therapy...?

By the way... my almost 4 year old granddaugher Makayla... piped up a couple of weeks ago.. Grandma Kris.. I want flappy arms like you do... . LOL She is far to young to know this is not always going to be seen on adults... I had to laugh... and moved on so she would not focus on the conversation....

I haven’t been called a “fat cow", but I was once called a “beached whale". With that said, ignorance is everywhere and cruel people are all around. Before I lost my weight, the best place for me to swim was in my own pool in my backyard. I really don’t think there is such a thing as a “safe public place" for an obese person to swim…and that is very sad.

The hospital I had my surgery has a bariatric rehab program which is shared with the cardiac rehab.  The gym is scheduled so that only bariatric patients use it at a certain time and the cardiac patients only use on their scheduled times.  It made my experience of a gym much more pleasant.  Unfortunately, no pool at the gym, but I have heard that some local YMCA's do schedule certain times for people, especially during the school year.

My personal experience was awful.  When I was at 276 and went to a pool, I broke the ladder leading out of the pool.  I was mortified and that was one of my moments when I knew something had to be done and that I needed medical help.

Hello Eric,
I use the Rec Centers here in the county where I live and I have told many in my support group about it. They also have water arboics, and other things to do. I really like going there because it is not around a lot of people that judge you for what you look like. I still have a lot of skin hanging with no hope of having it removed. So for me going here I have no-one judging me for what I still look like. I very happy to be where I'm at today.

Thanks for all you have done with OBESITY HELP, you are WONDERFUL.

Hugs'

I am not a pool rat at this time, with the anytime fitness center I use had one. Working night shifts, my exercise times vary from the 'usual public'. Just a little out of sync from main society.

I was involved in a water aerobics class at out local gym, all older and more overweight than I, so was not uncomfortable.  It was a daytime class and no one under 16 allowed.

LOL, I can't even begin to answer this one! I live in a very small town and we have 1 pool. Outdoors and all the lifeguards are teenagers! There is no class offered and besides that, I will not ever use a public pool! At least not the one in this town! I guess I am just a germaphobe!
