I have always had low blood pressure. And I enjoy salty foods.
However, in the past month I have developed a craving for green olives--
the kind in a jar with pimiento. Now this is a person who has not touched
an olive in probably a year and probably might have less than a dozen in
any given year. What is happening?
I have had these weird periods of craving unusual foods before, but not green olives. Another craving was chestnuts. That is all I wanted to eat for weeks.
And one day the interest just stops. And when I am on these weird food binges, that food is all I want to eat-to the exclusion of everything else.
Has anyone else experieinced this? Thanks!

Thanks for the support!! Isn't this craving strange? At least olives are cheap.
When I was craving chestnuts I was in major trouble..first off they are
hard to find (peeled and in jars) and second they are expensive ($7.99-9.99 per jar!). I could eat a couple jars a day with no problem. My husband said
it would be cheaper if I was an alcoholic (no disrespect to anyone).
Just wondering if there is so nutrient or something that the body is lacking and therefore "telling" us to go for a particular food?

I never used to eat added salt and didn't like salty foods before my surgery. Ever since, I crave salt something fierce. I devour olives, pickles, and sometimes Ritz crackers on a regular basis. The crackers became a problem in that I started regaining weight, so I'm trying to stick to the pickles and olives now. I'm glad to hear it's not just me.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...It's about learning to dance in the rain.
I've had the green olive craving too, but since my surgery I'm really sensitive to the taste of salty foods, like the taste is super intense. I can eat 2 olives then thats it. I've also had the pickled beet craving but can only have a couple slices due to the intense flavor. Not sure why we get these cravings but I'd rather it be these two things than the pasta and bread I snarfed prior to surgery! Now, I can't even get pasta or bread past my lips, it's total aversion! And I like that!
