Question about full liquid diet and mashed potatoes
Personal opinion here but I don't think it's such a bad idea to eat slider carby kinds of foods on the post op diet. I think it is more important to follow the diet (not bump up food stages) and when you are on solids then life changes as we knew it as a fat person. Then watch what you eat. But healing? I don't think it's that big of a deal. Just having surgery changes your quantities drastically, let the food changes wait until you are on solids. Baby steps, right? ;o)
I've posted this a couple times this week, but don't care to share again. If you want mashed potatoes, try the instant kind and add 1/3 cup of dry milk to the flakes and it will take them up in protein. About 8 grams for the 1/3 cup.It mixes just fine and you can't tell the difference. My wife doesn't even mind them that way... but do note, unless you eat the entire thing, you won't get all of the protein, but it does help if you want some mashed potatoes...
Oh, and I wasn't saying wither way if you should/could eat them yet... but when you are ready, try the above method...

Again I think that it is all about the different surgeons and NUTS so you should really be asking them. I just got onto stage three and mashed potatoes are on my list of foods to eat... See what I mean? It seems to be different for everyone so that is why I think that you should ask your own NUT. I don't eat them beause I no longer enjoy them but I am eating alot of eggs with cheese, ricotta with pizza sauce and cottage cheese.

I'm sure potatoes show up on many people's lists.
The issue is that they are garbage unless you punch them up like Brad suggested.
I did not eat them and still don't. It is hard to meet my protein daily totals.
If I were to eat empty carbs, I would never get there.
In these early stages, I (we) need to eat food that packs a nutritional punch.
(I ate enough potatoes pre-op to last me a life time...just sayin.)

Thanks everyone, I'll check with my NUT next week.
Was just getting a little bored with the cream soups,
so was looking for something else to get me through
this full liquid session. Thanks Brad for the tip on the
dry milk, I'd have never thought of that, but what a
great trick to get in the extra protein.
