Cardiologist appointment?

Hi all -

I have my surgery date (May 12 - yeah!) and tomorrow I have my pre op clearance with the cardiologist.

I've never been before and was wondering what to expect.
Will I have to do a stress test?
How should I dress?

Most importantly - do I have to take my pants off? I always like to know ahead of time if I have to take my pants off.

I just had to have an EKG, which I passed, so didn't need to see a cardiologist. I doubt they will do a stress test unless you don't pass the EKG. I'm quite sure you can keep your pants on :) Why does that matter? Do you only wear underwear if you have to take your pants off?

They did an EKG on me in the office, for which I had to undress from the waist up and put a gown on.  Then, I met with the cardiologist and he reviewed everything and examined me and that was it.  I had a Stress Test done within the last 6 months and he had those test results on file.  So, I'm not sure if a Stress Test is required, though.  That was it.  I hope that helps you.

Congrats on your date!    My date is May 6th.

When I went to cardiologist I was literally in and out in 6 minutes, I timed it, he did blood pressure and checked my heart and that was it

Awesome!  Thanks everybody.
About the pants - It's just a thing I have. Do I need to shave, lotion, etc?

I am a fair weather leg shaver -and if Ican avoid it, I usually do.

LOL He may look at your legs for varicosities. He may check for peripheral edema around your ankles and strength of pedal pulses......ehhhm so I will leave the shave question up to you.

You'll keep your pants on.  When I went, I failed my EKG so I had to come back for a stress test.  Even then you keep your pants on.  BUT, since you don't know what equiment the Dr. will be using it's a good idea to wear something that doesn't have metal in it.

I had a stress echocardiogram because the insurance company required it. It was scheduled separately from my cardiac clearance.

I wore a hospital gown to give easy access for all the electrodes that they attached for the test. But you know, I think I was able to leave my pants on. Shoes and socks too of course.
