No, it isn't.
If you look at their diagnoses, they are listed as having mental retardation of various degrees/severity - mild, moderate and severe, to be exact.
Along with those are other illnesses, ranging from Type II Diabetes and Hypertension to Schizophrenia and Autism with anything and everything in between.
If you speak to the more higher functioning in our group homes, they will flat out tell you that they have mental retardation, and a few will even add everything else in without hesitation.
The doctors that work with my residents (and I'm going to call the residents my friends because I work so closely with them on a daily basis, sometimes 16+ hours a day), the doctors themselves refer to them as having MR.
I also work in a few houses where the people do in fact have "developmental disorders and disabilities", but they tend to live in the homes where they have more freedom as they have behavioral issues more than anything else.
So, I'll state again: I work in a group home with and for MR adults, or rather adults that have been diagnosed as being MR.
Politically correct or not, that's what they have, what they have been diagnosed with, and something they (the ones that are able to understand) know they have.
Thanks for speaking up, though!

I'm all for compassion, as I think I've shown on this site over and over again - but I'm not one to practice "idiot compassion", and that's what this has come to. I walked away and I still get brought up in every single post. It's frustrating.
And it's nice to see you commenting again! You were MIA for a bit :)

I've been around, just not posting as much. I've been going through some issues post-PS, which I now believe was caused by medication I was given. I'm finally getting better, but it has been a slow and frustrating process.
For some people, the requirements of WLS are too difficult to manage. I suspect this guy may be one of them.
I jus****ched his you tube. I do see that there are some issues. It seems he needs a social worker who continues to check in on him at least a few times per month....I think he would need someone to help him through the process and then make sure he takes his vits daily...eats properly etc. I dont think he can do this himself online, he really needs someone who comes to him physically and makes the calls, the appts etc and then explains it to him. He should also have a social worker who takes him to his surgical appt, visits him in hospital and takes him home and helps him get set up.
My mother used to work with people like this.....various mental issues but could live on their own but did have trouble with some basic tasks in life (cleaning their homes, paying bills, keeping up on their meds and medical appts etc). He needs that service I think.

Yes, I very much agree. The company I work for has the group homes with people like me that do everything for the residents and then they have the supportive living homes where the more high functioning people live and only get basic services like rides to doctor's appointments and things like that.
If I lived where this guy lived, I would do more to help him out in finding those services, I really would.
