Is WLS really for me?

The reality is you can and probably will have everything you ever ate again, but the doctors job is to get you thin, they have to tell you this to make you successful until you figure out the truth on your own.  As someone aptly pointed out the other day wls is a gift of a certain amount of weight loss, more then likely you can't screw up the first year, if you want to keep it off you have to learn to eat like a thin person aka dieting.  Maybe not with the DS surgery but definately with rny.  Don't dispare you will eat again.

Good Luck

All I can tell you is that my WLS was the best thing I ever did.  I had RNY and I thought there were going to be foods that I could not eat.  However I can eat everything.  You never really know how you are going to react to the surgery.  I am down 100 pounds and I feel fantastic.  I can't wait to get rid of the rest.  Good luck with your decision.

Having WLS doesn't mean you won't be able to eat.  Just that you will have a lot more options for intake.

The white foods (rice/pasta/bread/potatoes) trigger our insulin output--refined carbs are not our friends.

I am almost 5 years out and am learning about cooking with Thai and Indian recipes.  I don't miss bread/rice/potatoes/pasta at all.

Sugar can make our insulin go sky-high also.

You really don't need these things in order to live, I promise.

Best wishes,

I thought the same thing about giving up a lot of my favorite foods, but I realized that my health and my life were more important than holding onto those foods. There are plenty of people who at a few years out can eat small amounts of just about anything. You won't miss those foods when you know that your blood pressure is perfect, when you are out of danger for diabetes.
You will find things that replace food, activities, working out, anything you want to do. Just ask yourself if it's worth losing your health just to hold onto the foods you love! It's really not!
