Hello Everyone, I need to ask your opinion on a couple of things.

First let me start by saying in am 5'3" and currently weigh 155 pds. I wear size 6 pants and medium tops. My husband/co-workers/trainer insist I need to stop losing weight. Saying I really dont have any more fat to lose. That what I see is loose skin.  My sister who is also a nurse, thinks I have Body Dysmorphic Disorder because I can't see past the old me (size 22).My Doc set my goal weight at 128 pds. Is it possible for him to set my goal too low?

155 is a BMI of 27.5, which is barely overweight.

128 is 22.7,  which is right in the middle of normal.

Normal is possible, but if you are comfortable at a higher weight, you don't have to let someone dictate what you should weigh.

Right now you have a BMI of 27.5, your sister the nurse cannot possibly argue that this is a healthy BMI.  As for Body Dysmorphia... you probably do have it.  Most of us do.  I've been at goal for over 2 years and I still see about 50# more when I look in a mirror vs. what the scale says.

Follow your doctor's goal and not what others are saying.  Tell your trainer you are following your MD, not him/her.

I am new3 to all this so please take my question with a grain of salt.  Is it possible that it is a mix of both.  Could you have 15-20 pounds of skin that is causing you to be above your goal?  I doubt your DR set you so low it would be unhealthy. The weight of your skin may be what is making your number look higher.  Your sister is probably right also you very well may have BDD many women do at any size.  JMHO

Excess skin typically does not weight as much as you would think... 15-20lbs of skin is an awful large amount... most plastic surgeons I saw said they remove on average 5-8lbs of excess skin from post-WLS patients... of course there are those cases of more but thats the average

My sister doesn't think my BMI is normal.

So if she does not think your BMI is normal, why does she believe  you should not try to get to a normal BMI?

The thing with WLS patients is we lose weight differently than 'normal' people... we lose it 'out to in' as I say... places like the face, the lower arms, lower legs... any place you carry a significant amount of weight in seems to go last... upper arms, thighs, belly, butt. People look at your face and think you shouldnt lose more not really knowing whats going on underneath... also people are not use to seeing you so small after seeing you overweight for years and to them it looks strange... just like you have to adjust they need to adjust as well. It will also take time for your body to catch up and change how you carry your weight... areas that may look hollowed out down the road will fill in and look better, at least in my opinion. Once I hit my goal weight it was a good year after that my body was still adjusting to everything. If you are still losing weight I say keep going, your body should hit a comfy spot somewhere down the road where it will stop losing.

When I was 180lbs my dads wife said I looked anexoric... well I am now 145lbs and she says I look great... go figure.

yes yes yes.. the doc may be wrong - your DH - is probably right.
measure your body fat % - if it is too low - below 20% - then try to maintain.  BMI means nothing for us - formally MO people.
I have a similar situation - I weigh 145-150 with 5'4" and have a body fat at 17-18%.  During PS - my doc said that there was no more fat...  So - now if I lose anything - it is at expense of my essential fat and or - muscles - and organs.  Not something I should be losing.

Read on body fat %,  listen to your husband. Trying to get too low - may make you really sick.

My sister is not concerned w/my BMI. She's concerned that I still see myself as fat in the mirror and continue to gravitate to the plus sizes when looking at or buying clothes.
