Does eyesight change with weight loss??

This is an interesting topic, I never put two and two together. I just had my annual visit last month and my prescription changed quite a bit (I knew it wouldn't because I couldn't read anything more than 10-15 feet away). I just had all my vitamin levels changed with my GB dr and they all came back normal, so who knows?

My eye doctor told me that 2 things can be affected with WLS.  First it is vitamin A deficiency, so you might want to get your vitamin A.  Even though you are getting vitamin A in your multivitamin, most multivitamins have betacarotene which we can't absorb. We need Palimate or Retinol.  If you aren't already taking it, try Centrum or Bariatric Advantage.

The other thing is a plus - after losing weight, my diabetes went away and the pressure in my eyes reduced.  I was borderline for getting glaucoma and now my numbers are great.  This is one thing that actually makes your eyes better.  Diabetes can really affect your eyes, so if you can reverse your diabetes, you can improve your vision

I take Solaray's Provide multivitamins. These were recommended by a personal trainer as the best multivitamin to take because it a gelcap, which the body absorbs rather than it going down the toilet like hard tablets.  I've been taking them for years.

I checked the ingredients.  The vitamin A is 20,000 IU with 50% from retinyl palmitate and 50% beta-carotene.

I forgot to say when I originally posted that I do not have diabetes.

Glad I found this post! I thought I was nuts! I had lasik eye surgery 5-6 years ago and I am 44... so I thought maybe it was the age thing creeping up on me. I had RNY on Jan. 25th of this year (2010) and have noticed my vision (up-close vision) is practically gone! I have to hold everything at arms length to see it. Prescription's are really hard to read until they are at least arms length! I have concluded it must be a combination of Vitamin A deficiency and I really believe some of it is Dehydration!! No doubt age is a factor also... damn age factor!!! lol
I am not expert just learning as I go. Any additional advice or thoughts on the subject are more than welcome. Thought it was just me. Thanks Ya'll
