Does eyesight change with weight loss??
My eyesight seems to have changed. I am nearsighted with an astigmatism. It's been about a year since I had my eyes checked (normally they never change). I'm four months postop and it just seems like my eyesight has changed, particularly the astigmatism.
I can't see how weight loss would make a difference, but thought I would ask if anyone has experienced this.

Are you saying that your farsighted vision (not being able to see close by) has changed? That happens with age and there really is nothing that you can do about that.

The answer is yes and I know this because I went to the eye doctor in early January and he did not change my glasses because he knew that I was having the surgery. He told me that my eyesight would change quite a bit and we would deal with the change after the biggest part of the weight loss was over. This was confirmed at my first post-op dietician meeting where she asked if I noticed any changes in eyesight -- when I confirmed that I did she said it was completely normal.
There is fat everywhere even near the eyes, when you lose weight you lose pressure. My eye doctor would not change my script until I had lost 100 pounds. It did change, now my astigmatism is not all the bad. Not bad enough for special contacts, but not good enough for regualr contacts, so no more contacts for me.....
My eyesight has changed drastically. I can't even read a blackberry anymore. I have low vitamin A levels (found out at 3 months out). It can cause eyesight issues. I am taking my vitamin A and it hasn't gotten better. Waiting to find out my labs again to check where i am at now.
make sure you get your levels checked just to make sure.

I had a sleeve done and we are not supposed to have any malabsorption issues. My multivitamin alone gives me 400% of the daily requirement of Vitamin A. My protein drink and protein bars each provide 30% of the Vitamin A daily requirement.
I'm probably eating healthier than I ever have in my life. I used to live on carbs - completely bad carbs - Tostitos, popcorn, and poptarts.
I do not believe it is a vitamin deficiency. I had my labs checked last month and everything was in a normal range.
Thanks for the comments of your eye doctors. I'll just have to make time to go to my ophthalmologist for a checkup.
