I have to lose weight help
Hi all. I have about 50 or so pounds that I have to lose to get my bmi where the doctor wants it to be. I have been trying to lose weight for so long that I get discouraged but I still plug away. I am only losing about a couple pounds a month and I fee like a person my weight shouldn't have such a hard time dropping 50 pounds. I excerise 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes on the eliptical machine and I also workout with kettle bells.
My doctor is so supportive and tells me I will get there and he will gladly do the surgery when my bmi is where it needs to be.
My nutrition is very healthy. I document calories and stay right at 1100 to 1200 calories daily. What do you guys suggest that I do to lose the 50 pounds?
Would going on the preopdiet help me shed some weight fast? I'd like to have surgery sometime soon. My twin sister just had surgery and she is looking really great. I'm happy for her but I also want it to "ME" as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Protein shakes, steamed green / yellow veggies and water. You'll drop 15 lbs a week. Clean out the refer and pantry . Let the family fend for themselves and make WAR ON THE FAT. If anybody *****es tell them its your health that most important to you right now
Hell, its only for a short period of time.
Good luck

If it was easy to lose 50 pounds and keep it off, we'd never need to be here!
I was on a lowfat, 1000 calorie or less diet for the two weeks prior to my surgery and lost over 20 pounds, so I can suggest that to you. I ate a LOT of steamed veggies and meats/fish. Nothing was baked, fried or sauced - the only sauces that went on were very lowfat or no fat.
I was amazed, when I checked calories in foods, how much I could eat of steamed veggies for 1000 calories. A cup of most veggies was under 50 calories and most portions of proteins were under 100:
Broccoli: 30
Green snap beans: 34
Cucumber: 25
Mushrooms: 15
3 oz. shrimp: 90
3 oz. light tuna in water: 99
3 oz. salmon: 121
1/2 cup diced cooked chicken, white meat: 107
1 large hard boiled egg: 78
So while it's hard to resist the yummy not-so-good-for-you foods, you can get a ton of healthy ones for much fewer calories and even if you graze, you're not grazing on a lot of extra calories.

Yes, find yourself a different surgeon. My BMI was 75 the day I had my DS.
Given your BMI, I'd also think VERY seriously about having the DS. Studies have shown that the DS gives the very BEST long-term maintained weight loss, especially for those of us with a starting BMI greater than 50. Your surgeon doesn't do the DS, so I'm sure he hasn't discussed it with you as a viable option, but you owe it to yourself to at least research it.

Along with what everyone else wrote, it is time to change up your exercise routines. Your body is likely used to doing the 30 minutes on the eliptical and needs to do something else. Try adding more resistance-type work to build lean muscle which will burn up those calories for you. And do something different for your cardio workouts.
I hope you lose what you need to get the surgery. I know it has to be very hard to do. Good luck!

With a BMI of 60??? Hmmm something doesn't sound right here. You are eating no more than 1200 calories a day? You should be losing weight just sitting on your couch! And you say you are exercising too...I don't know what to tell you.
Your doctor knows this is what you are doing??? He should see that something is wrong. Unless he doesn't believe you are doing this???
Sorry, wish I could be of help.
Good Luck,
Erika
