After A YEAR -

A light beer.  Slowly.  Alcohol is a whole different animal post op.

I think I've had alcohol four time since my surgery.  Twice  I had a small glass of wine, which I guess is as pouch friendly as alcohol can get since it's pretty low in carbs and sugar.  It's still useless calories, though.  Both times it went to my head pretty fast.  I only had a little but ended up a bit tipsy.

Twice I had a little bit of a frozen margerita which is certainly not pouch friendly at all.  But I only had a few sips of my partner's, I didn't drink a whole one or even close to a whole one.  It didn't affect me much at all.  I don't think I even had enough to make me tipsy.

Me either, Michelle.  My pouch has messed me up for life when it comes to drinking.

Alcohol is the devil!

1) During the phase of rapid weight loss, the loss is putting a serious strain on your liver.  Adding alchohol at this point could cause some serious damage, which is why they say to wait a year, after the weight loss has slowed down.

2) Alchohol is sugar, and so are most mixers to go with it.  If you're prone to dumping, watch out.

3) It hits you VERY fast, so have someone there that has your back so you don't get into trouble.

Even before the surgery if I had 2-3 drinks a year I was 'living it up'  lol...  But I know my surgeon said that I could drink but that I would react very different.  He said he had a patient that drank a glass or two of wine every night pre-op and after the surgery she had 3 sips and passed out.  So he said that if I wanted to drink to try it out at home first - he didn't want me to go to a party and pass out.. lol

But I have friends that have had RNY and they have the occassional beer/wine/****tail.  Jus****ch the ****tails - they are WAY high in sugars!

not only does it hit you quickly...but it sneaks up on you throught the night....When you first try it do it with someone you trust completely.  For me it seems to move out just like it came in...quickly.  I occasionally drink vodka mixed with crystal light...  but be careful.....

Have a Great Day!
