craving vinegar???
Ok - I cant find anything about this so Im putting it here. I am craving anything with vinegar! Pickles, pickled veggies, hot wings, hot chips...and did I mention pickles? lol
What is up with that? Has anyone else ever heard of a vinegar craving and perhaps what causes it? Should I be concerned about some kind of deficiency?
I am 100 days out of gastric bypass surgery and have lost 60 lbs. YEA! But this whole vinegar kick is confusing and unsettling!

they are all in normal range and I am taking an iron supplement from Bariatric Advantage. I have not craved ice at all. In fact I have stopped using ice. Not sure if its just because its winter or what. Its just the vinegar items I am craving now. I wondered if it had something to do with PH since vinegar is an acid. Or maybe potassium? I dont know.
Since surgery I crave strong spices, salt vinegar... don't know why. But I do!

The question is bringing up PICA (pie-ka) as a possibility.
Pica is the practice of craving unusual items -- ice (pagophagia), rock salt, laundry startch, gasoline fumes, dirt, laundry detergent, etc. -- and they generally are due to a deficiency. Many are pointers to iron-deficient anemia (the ice is a key indication of iron deficiency).

CHECK your levels. Normal ppl chedw ice sometimes. The degree of need/desire is the clue.
I know a girl who was a teen and her parents got an ice crusher specifically for her. We went over to play board games and there was a bowl of crushed ice with a spoon. Words came out before brain engaged, "So, who's iron deficient?" They thought I read minds or something when they all pointed to the girl.
I tried to get across if it's THAT bad, she needs to find an iron she could take. She didn't tolerate most docs' usual offering of ferrous sulfate, so was taking nothing. (scream)
