Can you eat pizza and subs after surgery?
Sorta....I haven't tried yet but they can be modified. I guess it would be difficult to call Pizza Hut, order pizzas and subs and just tear into them. I think some folks eat a very low fat/thin crust piece of pizza.....I just haven't tried yet. The only thing I was concerned about was popcorn and I have no issue at all with it. A sub could be modified...regular good deli meats, veggies, low fat dressings etc...and Arnold thin breads or a flat wrap of some sort. So far, I've just not eaten much fast food. At McDonalds one day I ordered the Big Mac wrap with no sauce, then tore part of the wrap off....lol, I guess it was just a small piece of burger with a tiny slice of cheese and lettuce. I was stuck eating there with no other option because I was with a group. I could have had a salad but I needed more protein...it was fine! Don't worry, you really won't feel the same way about some of these foods later...or I don't ....yet!
For myself I didn't like pizza after. At nine months I tried it and it was gross. Now I'm over a year out and I do eat a piece of pizza I let myself have so many carbs a day now about 20-30 and if I know I'm going to eat a piece of pizza I watch my carbs befor and after the point. If you do have it will be closer to 9-12 months. Not the best thing to eat though.
This would be considered something to do on OCCASION...BUT, I eat the topping off the pizza, no crust. You will get the protein from the cheese and meat. I have gotten so used to this that I don't even consider that I am not eating the bread...the toppings are the best part anyway!
As far as subs go...have the sandwich maker scoop out the guts of the bread so as to lower the carbs...no dressing, I use just a stripe of mustard and olive oil and vinegar. Then again, you might not tolerate the bread at all??? Everyone is different. I don't make a big deal about NOT getting to eat what I want, I just figure out a way to make it wls friendly.
just to add to your food list...when you go out and want a burrito, I personally just suck the inside of the burrito - meat, beans, and cheese....works fine for me. But again, not something I eat all the time.
Good luck to you!

At 8 months out I have no problems with pizza. I usually have it every couple of weeks or so. But the thinner the crust, the better.
I still cannot do "subs". Something about the soft bread always get stuck. I can do a toasted sub, but if it's not toasted I usually eat it with a knife and fork so as to skip most of the bread. I also use arnold thins at home for most sandwich type meals, even hamburgers.

What type of surgery are you planning on having?
I had the DS and at almost 2yrs out I have no problem with Pizza or subs..
I did watch my carb count while I was in the Losing phase of my journey. But now that I am working on maintenance I do have pizza and sub's on occasion.. I Don't have allot of white flour but now and again it is fine for me..
I really enjoy eating Pizza made with lavish bread as the crust or a ALL Cheese crust ( & egg ) to avoid so many carbs and these pizza's I eat very regularly..
I also found a very low carb high protein wrap that I use allot for my subs when I make them at home to avoid the bread.. But I love a good Sub-Way sub now and then.. ;)
You just want to make sure you get the most out of your weight loss window and keep the carb's Low until you lose all of your weight..

Ppl will yell at you for asking this. But my answer is that I might have a sub couple times per year. Half of a half. And pizza, I dunno, kinda lost my zest for it. But we celebrate certain things here at work with pizza and i get an individual one made with what I like. I still only eat half--this is the 6" size. Again, only a few times per year, though.

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
