B12 shots

I recently refilled my prescription for B12 and I was reading the bottle and it said for IM or SC use only.  I have been giving myself injections for about 10 years now and have always given them subcutaneaosuly but so many people have always said that they must be given intramuscularly.  I spoke with my hematologist about it and he said they are just as effective if given subcutaneously= and now that I have read the bottle from the manufacturer saying that it can be done either way, why would I want to use a 3 inch needle in my backside when I can use a 1 inch needle in my stomach?  They are totally painless and easy to do.

For those of you that are doing them IM, you might want to ask your doctor.  Show them the bottle = where it says IM or SC.  My B12 is 1750 - that should be proof enough.

I am glad to hear it but we are in the minority.  Actually I looked at the package and looked at the needle up close and mine is actually 1/2 inch.

Doctors seem to only do them in the arm with a big needle but if you give them to yourself, you can do it with insulin needles in your stomach.

WOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO Thank you!!! I hadn't noticed until lately that I have a dent in my butt where the injections are killing my skin. I'm all over the stomach thing now....will be switching!!

Oh yes!  I track my labs with hard copies in hand.  For a year I gave myself injections into the muscle.  Great labs.  For the last 6 months I switched to the SC into my flabby stomach skin and guess what?   Same great levels.  No way am I going back to IM.  SC is completely painless and effortless for me.

My case is probably unusual because I live in France. But here the B12 I get can either be injected or drank. So, I drink one every week. No issue with B12 almost 3 years post RNY and I have it checked twice a year. So, there may be a preparation in the US that can go down the gullet instead!
