So there it is.  I post, because between the searches for"Carnie's Key Lime Cheesecake Recipe," and "Carnie Wilson How Much Did She Regain?" that are landing on my blog?

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4DMUS_enUS263US264&q=carnie wilson recipe for cheesecake

I figured this is more fitting than the cheesecake.

For all of you with the :O mouths?  Deal.  To be perfectly honest, many at her stage have regained all and more of their lost excess weight.  It happens.

Pass the cheesecake.

HERE"S A HEALTHY-ISH VERSION.  Carnie's is ALL REAL SUGAR.  Nom Nom Nom.

No-Bake Key Lime Cheesecake

Recipe courtesy George Stella

Show: Low Carb and Lovin' It

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon wheat germ
  • 2 cups plus 1 tablespoon sugar substitute (recommended: Splenda)
  • 16 ounces real cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 3/4 cup Key lime juice (fresh or bottled)
  • 2 tablespoons no sugar added vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup ho****er
  • 2 limes, zested, divided
  • 3 envelopes unflavored gelatin (recommended: Knoxx brand)
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • Special Equipment: 10-inch deep pie plate or cake pan

Directions

Sprinkle the wheat germ and 1 tablespoon sugar substitute over the bottom of the pie plate to create a "faux" crust.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the softened cream cheese, sour cream, ricotta cheese, lime juice, 2 cups sugar substitute, vanilla extract, 1/4 cup ho****er, and zest of 1 lime on medium speed until well combined.

Using a fork to mix, thoroughly dissolve the 3 envelopes of gelatin in 3/4 cup boiling water. Do not let cool and move onto the next step immediately. (It is important that the water be boiling hot and that you mix the gelatin powder in quickly so it is completely dissolved. If not, you will have gummy bear-type lumps.) With the mixer on high and working very quickly so the gelatin does not set, blend the hot dissolved gelatin thoroughly into cheesecake mixture. Immediately pour mixture into the prepared pie pan and sprinkle with the zest of the other lime. Chill in the refrigerator for about 3 to 4 hours or until firm. Serve.

Hint: If you have any extra cheesecake mixture left over after filling the pie pan (I always do), put it in a pastry bag or heavy-duty plastic bag and put it in your freezer for about 7 to 10 minutes, just to firm it up a bit to the thickness of whipped cream. Then take it out and decorate the top of the Key Lime Cheesecake. (If it is in a plastic bag, snip the corner off.)

I gained 20 lbs reading the recipe - sounds great though. Thank you.  The Dr. Oz show with Carnie looks like it will be on Feb. 4

Considering she started around 300 and got down to 150ish (right?), she's still maintaining more than half the weight she lost.

I read a post when I was new on OH by a woman who'd had RNY with the same doc around the same time as Carnie, and she said the people she knew who had also had RNY with him at that time had all regained significant amounts of their weight.

She's technically a success.  :)

And, considering that it's common for RNY'ers to regain at least 50% by five years --- she's done aiiight. :)

Wow... my heart plunges into my stomach every time I hear of her.
I won't lie, she freaks me out... and g*d damn she sure puts herself out there! To be honest, she ****** me off. And I know we are ALL candidates for regain, but we all took this leap and we all should basically deal with the fact that we can NEVER stop trying. Yeah, we had WLS and some of us seem to have had a rude awakening that the "lifestyle" seems to be ... hmm... very much like a "diet"... well, yeah, it is. But the way I see it is we gave ourselves a shot to lose some mega weight, and we'd all still be dieting miserably, or miserable in some other capacity related to weight, with or without the surgery. So just keep dieting - why the hell not? You came this far, why not just keep going further. Anyhoo, sorry for the rant, but (obviously) Carnie brings up strong feelings (probably in everybody). I feel for her, but I also want to tell her to buck up and maybe get off the damn tv (among all the other things she's addicted to, add "attention" and  publicity to the list) and start sorting her **** out.

Disclaimer: yeah I know this opinion of mine might not be popular and yeah I know I personally am not even that far out from surgery so maybe more senior members of the bariatric community might not like such a "newbie" going off on Carnie, and blah blah blah, but its like, come on!

I know this probably won't be well accepted but please realize that Carnie was on TV and was an entertainer before surgery.  I know someone in Hollywood and for the good or the bad, once you make money off the entertainment industry, you want to stay there or you feel like a failure.  I like to think of it as a way for her to help get herself back in control because it is public.  Kirstie Alley is doing the same thing, now Valerie B, Marie Osmond. and you could name many others that make their money off of weight related things.  If you watched the first show Carnie explained that she had financial problems and needed a show.  I think it is the best thing she can do to hold herself accountable.  No one is perfect and let me say that without her I wouldn't have known about the surgery and she saved my life.  She's open about her cross addictions and struggles.  Give yourself a few years and see where you are.  You may have a different outlook in 9 years.  We are all human beings and we all need some compassion.  If you don't wish to offer it, then don't let her get to you because it only muddies your life. Good luck.

Yes I wholeheartedly agree - especially about the part where I wait 9 years and see how I feel then!

I guess that is the part that terrifies me, right? I know that there *are* success stories out there, long term post op, but when all a new bariatric patient hears is Carnie Carnie Carnie all the time (and people love to bring up how the surgery "doesn't work" when talking to me, and then use her as a reference) its just disheartening.

Also, I totally agree about needing to give her kudos for bringing the topic of WLS very much into the public arena. She really did make it a "household name", but I guess the flip side of that is she then became the poster child and now her struggles with weight post op are inextricably linked to gastric bypass.

SO... that being said, I really do like and appreciate Carnie and I so so so wish her well, but I guess the part where I get mad is when I hear her name being used in the same sentence as "cheesecake company" or "opening a bakery" or... you know. LOL I just wish for her sake she would not go in that direction. I mean, I don't think opening a cheesecake company is a great first step in any new weight loss attempt!
