I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my prayers. I can identify with you; the last time I saw my mother alive, I too had to stop, turn around and hug her just a little bit longer and make sure she knew that I loved her. That was 17 years ago, and to this day, I am so glad that I was able to do that. Once everything settles down, the pain will start to diminish somewhat over time.
Please accept my most sincere condolences. I just lost my mother to cancer the week of Christmas....
My mother & father moved away almost 30 years ago, and our visits were not all that frequent....however, when she became ill, my father and she came to stay with us (myself and 2 sisters)...she lived with my sister, but we all are in the same city...so, we had a brief opportunity to take care of my mother while going thru her journey...We missed out on our mother for almost 30 years, but the end is what (at least to me) really counts! We were able to become friends and love each other unconditionally....
I believe that God sent a team of His finest angels to take my mother home... and a special team to take your mother-in-law home too.... you were blessed and so was she!
God Bless you...

Work like you don't need the money....Dance like no one is watching... Love like you've never been hurt.
