low iron questions

This is all great information.

I have micro-cyctic anemia. My iron levels are barely registering (says my PCP). I was sent to a specialist on blood disorders who wants me to do IV Infusions as well. I asked to try something other than Ferrous Sulfate first, before doing the IV treatments.

I had AWFUL pain from the Ferrous Sulfate..backed me up something terrible. My stomach never hurt so bad.

I was given a script for Chromagen Forte to start taking.

Not sure what my surgeon will do if my iron levels aren't right at the time of surgery.

I'm 7 years post-op and recently wa**** with two serious back to back illnesses that suppressed my immune system and wreaked havoc on my iron levels. I needed blood transfusions, which brought up my iron levels for a short time and then they dropped again. After several blood tests repeated over several weeks, and verified by a doctor at Mayo clinic, I was put on 325mg ferrous gluconate 2x a day. But, There are certain foods that I cannot eat within 1 hour before the pill or two hours after it, such as whole grains, to maximize efficiency.  The alternative is 1x/week, 2 hour iron infusion.

Interestingly, the ferrous gluconate does not constipate me. Poop is dark green and particularly smelly, but at least it comes out without effort!  I realize that another poster is anti anything with ferric salts, but this is working for me, and I have been advised by my trusted doctor and a mayo doc.

Have your Iron labs come up on this?

You are one of the very rare ones that have no intestinal issues with this type of iron.  If your labs are coming up nicely you are also one of the rare one that this works on.  Most Dr.s prescribe this but it really does not work well for most, even 'normies'.  That is why Andrea U is not happy with this form.

All that being said, I am glad that it does work for you.
