You and I never agree on things religious, Steve, but on this, we kind of DO.

My sister said virtually the same things to me that you have stated.....she knew people who have died....lots of them.......when pressed...she sdmitted she knew no one.....had just read......she...like me......was a morbidly obese diabetic......I buried her last year...age 50 by a month.  I wasn't far behind.  WLS was a God given miracle that saved my life.  You are letting fear.....human ego based fear talk you out of this opportunity......your faith could help you change your life.......but it will require inner strength and commitment.  God hasn't saved you from a dangerous surgery...your frail human mind has kept you stuck.  Susan

One has to be ready to take this journey before embarking. It's a shame that for many suffering from this disease of morbid obesity, the fare is too high a price tag.  I too stepped back from having WLS several years ago for a number of reasons. But the main was that I was high risk and feared I would die. It's a legitimate reason for not having the surgery. However, during that time after my decision, I developed even more health issues. Some of them like scaring in my veins in my legs are irreversible.  Then blood clots came in my lung and legs. So when I did have my RNY in September, I was even more high risk. But I also knew that I would be dead soon if I traveled the path I was currently on.

Last year, I was finally ready to start my journey.

Good Luck.

I can't speak for you but I know many people who are in your same position with knowing people who have had complications so they are nervous about getting it done.  I tell those people the same I am going to tell you.  For every 1 person that has problems there are THOUSANDS that have not.  My entire family has had this done and there hasn't been 1 problem, not 1.  My mom, both my sisters, my husband, myself, my cousin, my husband's grandmother's sister, my husband's uncle, a few friends.  I am surrounded by it yet still chose to come to a site like this for support.  You wouldn't believe the friends I've met off of here and the questions that can be answered by people who have experienced it rather than nurses who are just doing their job.  I'd say, just go through it and make sure that is what you want to do and if it is, don't bash the people who have had it done.  Yes, death is always a risk, it is when you are driving to work in the morning.  Vomiting is just a side effect to teach you, to use this tool.  Yes, it does cost some money but I feel like no amount of money is worth my life and as I'm laying in the hospital right now after having this done, I can tell you that I am hurting but its all a process and I'm glad I made the decision to get it done.  Just please make sure you are doing this for you and not for the fear.  If that is your choice, then okay but I'm not exactly sure what you were looking for by posting a topic like this one.

VERY clearly a post by somebody who is nowhere NEAR ready for this.   Good luck to you Sir, you may be back in 4-5 years but for now let it go, dont think about it and live your life because you are right that its a big deal and not to be taken lightly.
