Telling strangers you had weight loss surgery

You know, one of my things before surgery was never letting anyone (besides my wife) see my naked stomach.  Now since surgery, I find myself lifting up my shirt and showing anyone who wants to see my scar.  I kind of feel like it is my "war wound" and am not shy about showing it.  I especially like it when people say "man, that's hardcore"! :)

You made me laugh.  I've been known to let people touch my port.  My hubby goes "WTF, you let them what?" lol.  It feels like a part of me, and it comforts me to rub it sometimes.  OK, I'm strange :)

lol, that's not strange at all.  I am often sitting here and just touching my wound.  I don't know what it is.  Maybe subconsciously I just want to make sure it's still closed :)  I was very lucky in my surgery.  No tube and the doctor used a glue to seal the wound, that never opened up and has been healing quite nicely.  All in all, I was very lucky, happy to be alive and don't care who I show it to!

Good for you.  I love sharing.  If you can save one person by sharing your experience, then it is worth it.  My life is an open book.

This incident happened to me almost exactly! Not Walmart but a local grocery store.
I kind of stand out most of the time anyway in my flight suit... exspecially when I was wearing a 56 short ( imagine a navy ball in a onsie with stripes on the side) Now I am in a 44 short. I usually go to the grocery store on the way home from work, but it had been awhile.  The cash register said, " Woah, what happened to you?". Yep I told her, the person behind me, the clerk next to her.... Oh well, good to know I am the latest talk!

Hmmm   we must shop at the same Wal-Mart, Herc ..    (they used to ask me stuff like that here, too)    Good way to pay it forward ..

Reminds me also of an experience I had early on with a certain assistant manager at our local Kroger store ..   She one time pulled me aside and mentioned my weight loss to me, and asked all kinds of questions (I think one of the pharm techs there told her about me)  ..  When I asked her about her interest, she told me it was for her husband who was supposedly M.O. (she was O. herself) ..     I had a hunch she was really asking for herself, but didn't want to admit it ..   I saw her again about a year or two later, and asked her if she ever had her husband check into it ..  She mumbled something about talking to him about it, but him not wanting to go further with the idea, or some such ..   I guess I never will know for sure if she was in fact intending the surgery for him or for herself, and got cold feet  ..

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

Before surgery I didnt talk about my weight or wls.  Now that I have lost almost 70 pounds - I talk about it a lot more than I use to.  I think part of it is pride in myself for having lost weight and the other is to inform people that wls is not the devil.
