Does your ribcage move as you lose weight?

I have searched all the terms I can think of and can find nothing.

I recently noticed, particularly when I am laying down a dull ache in my rib cage.

The ribs don't seem to be sticking out as far as they were so either what weight I have left has shifted around or they are going inward as I lose weight.

I also seem to have a dull ache in my shoulders and hip joins but none in my feet or knees like I used to.  I kind of figured it was from bones/joints adjusting to less weight but could find nothing to support that.

Thanks.

I think you should discuss this with your doctor.  At my last WLS meeting, one thing was brought up about gall bladder issues with WL surgery.  If your pain in on the right side, it is most important that you ask him.  Good luck.

It is not an internal organ thing, it actually feels a touch tender when I press on the ribs but I would not consider it enough pain to even be worthy of mention.  It is on both sides and definitely skeletal.

I've never heard of that but have wondered the same thing about my hipbones!!  Let me know if you figure anything out ;-)

Is it possible that you've done something recently that could've given you a sore spot? I've been doing yoga and pilates lately and have discovered soreness in ways/places I'd never imagined possible...

I do have a dance instructor that is a bit ab work crazy.

I guess it could be all the ab work we do each week that is making the rib cage sensitive.

Couch to 5k running too.

I have been going to a chiropractor for pain in my thoracic spine.  Apparently I had a rib that for some reason decided to ' move away from it's original location'.  The chir. informed me that many WLS patients have trouble with their backs and ribs due to the rapid wt loss causing us to alter our posture.  I am now doing specific exercises to strenthen my back, hips and core muscles.

That's so weird you ask that.  I haven't even lost that much (@20 lbs in the past 6 weeks since surgery), but I feel aches and pains the far bottom left and far bottom right of my rib cage.  I didn't have it for the first month or so.  I wonder that too.  Or, maybe there's someplace in there we hold some gas?  It started when I started going to the gym and lifting some stuff.  I've got other little pains in there too, but the ribcage edges are the most consistent. I'm going to the NP tomorrow to discuss it.  If I find out anything I'll let you know.

What's your vitamin D level???  It sounds like osteomalacia, aka rickets.

I was deficient and supplementing preop, my two month numbers were good and have a four month blood test tomorrow to see where I am at plus the normal endocrinologist blood work for my thyroid levels.

Hi

First of all I haven't had my WLS yet.  When I weighed 198lbs and lost 40lbs I had the same pain in my ribs and hips (both sides) when I pressed them. I asked my Dr what it was and he said 2 things

1. That I didn't have as much "padding" between my skin and my bones so pressing caused my weird pains.

2. I  wasn't carrying around as much weight as before and my skeletal structure was realigning it's self to the new way my body was carrying around its weight.

I don't know if that would be for anyone else but it was for me.
I'm also getting myself ready for it again.

Best wishes to all
