Jenna, love the new pic! :)  You're really losing weight in your face, and it shows!  Keep up the great work.

Jersey, I'm so sorry you had such a disppointment.  I would be devastated, too.  Give yourself time to sort through your feelings, they must be overwhelming right now!

I agree with the posters that suggest talking to a different surgeon, and especially getting a second opinion on whether other types of surgery might be a good option.  It can NOT hurt to talk to someone, and you might just be surprised how very different two different surgeons might feel about your situation and how you should proceed.

When you're ready, of course.  Best of luck however your journey turns out, hon.  ****hugs***

I don't think an edoscopy is part of most standard pre-op testing.  What you have with the narrow esophagus is really rare.

But I definately WOULD get a second opinion from another surgeon (perhaps one that could/would consult with an ear/nose/throat specialist/surgeon).

Good luck!

This does not have to be over!

(And I agree with someone about the band being hard on the esophagus, so I totally disagree with what your surgeon suggested about waiting a few years for the band.  But really, who am I and what do I know?)

I had a quick look at your surgeon's profile. It appears he only does bands and RNY.
With such a narrow esophagus as your problem, you may want to (OK, you really should!!!!) have a consult with a surgeon that does the VSG and/or the DS.....

Did you have a previous surgery where you had respitory failure ? thats what i had and ever since then i have problem swallowing food,  after i swallow food  the first time , the food somehow reacts and comes back up my esophagus on its own then i have to rechew and swallow again and it finally stays down..my esophagus must have shrunk from my respitory failure after my open heart surgery,,,,,

I am so sorry that you had to go through that, I cannot even image.

I hope they are taking the next steps to see why the esophagus was narrow and treating it.

Hugs.

I wouldn't even consider the band.. and if you've got an already small esophagus.. I've gotta wonder about your surgeons qualificatiosn if he's suggesting band....

And he doesn't even DO the VSG?

I am so so so so sorry!

I'd go to another doc.
One that does the vsg.

My surgeon is great, I wish he would of run other tests before the surgery but it's too late now.  I'm sure we'll discuss other options in january when i go back for my follow up. Right now i just went to feel better. the gas pains have begun, oh joy!  yes i am walking and drinking. at least i don't have to sip.
