BOB! COMPASSIONATE! Maybe I was watching  the wrong show but I thought ya'll were talking about Biggest Looser. I saw Mr compassion dropping like fifteen F bombs on this one chick that couldn't complete his treadmill circuit. She was in exessive of 300 pounds and looked as if she was going to pass out. I don't know about you but I don't call anyone cussing people out as being compassionate. That's just me.

I think it's great. I tried out for the BL and so wanted to be on it. Until you are that size you don't understand what it means to be normal. I remember when I had surgery all I wanted was to be 299.  Far from a normal weight but in my head it was 'normal fat'.

These people are trying to improve their life, they may be people that insurance can't or won't help them, surgeons who won't touch them. This may be the only way for them to get on the track to lose weight....

Good for them for doing it, good for BL for showing it...

14 pounds lost before surgery. My first ticker is when I hit onderland: this was my goal when I started on this journey.  I want to focus on that right now...once I get there I can reevaluate.

My second ticker is my dream goal. Even if I only visit there for a short time, it would be nice to see that number just once.  I am pretty sure I'll need plastics to hit this goal.

Found this article interesting:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/25/business/media/25loser.htm l

It talks about "the dark side" of the biggest loser - kinda interesting....

I wonder how Jillian would feel if someone strapped a couple hundred pounds on her frame and forced her to work out like she makes the contestants work. Again I gleaned all of this from watching this show for all of 4 and 1/2 minutes. That's all of that I could stand.

From what I understand, she used to be pretty big - in the mid to upper 200s.

Proud mama of Mischa and Gabriel, both born post-op.

I hate this show, period. I think they are going to just keep pushing the limits until someone gets hurt, it makes for good ratings when someone keels over or has chest pains. OHH will the fat guy/girl drop dead, let's watch and see!

According to the linked article that someone else posted, there already has be a couple of medical emergincies on that show.

How much do you wanna bet all contestants sign waivers that they won't sue if something happens to them.

If they are planning on treating the 500 pounders as they treat everyone else, then this season there just might be heart attacks. Wow just think how high the ratings will go then.

IMO  being MO or SMO or bigger is not fodder for entertainment and fun. It is a serious disease.  You don't see Big Medicine pushing the MO to exercise till they puke. Big Medicine shows some  real compassion for obese people and their disease

I always wonder when I watch this show and/or shows like Ruby, why these people's doctors have never recommended WLS, especially for those who are clearly morbidly obese.  I guess they just can't "sell it" the way they can watching extremely large people suffer and strain.  How many of us have been there so many times over before deciding to do WLS?  These shows are criminal exploitation of desperate people, IMHO.

You know what's really scary is they treat everyone the same. The physiology of a 500 pounder is not the physiology of a 250 pounder. Most MO persons' heart and lungs are stressed to the max just trying to pump blood and oxygen around their huge bodies. Add extreme exercise to that and it becomes dangerous. If they plan to do this to 500+ pounders there WILL not may be dire consequences. Can you imagine the stress  a 500 pound persons heart, lungs and muscles are under just on an everyday scale.

Maybe it will take someones death to stop seeing this as entertainment. Sad.
