3 weeks post-op and still can't yawn!

Alright here goes nothing guys,

I am just over 3 weeks post-op and have been having short, sharp pains whenever I breathe really deep (like when you take in a deep breath to sneeze or yawn or laugh).  It used to be constant but now it's just on really deep breaths.  Up until yesterday I couldn't even sneeze...i would do the wind up breaths and cause myself enough pain that I forgot I ever had to sneeze in the first place - but then yesterday I had my sneeze and it was still a touch painful but not that bad but I STILL CAN"T YAWN! Whenever I yawn, at the very end of hte yawn I get a short, sharp pain in my ribs, just under my breast.  Has anyone had any similar pains or can think of any rational explanations as to what this might be?!
Cheers,
Ezimmer

I can't say I have ever experienced that.  At 3 weeks out I was as fit as a fiddle.

Is the pain anywhere near your upper incision?  It might just be pulling on that as you use those muscles.  Other than that suggestion...????

OMG Yes!  My third week was my worst pain week.  I couldn't move for the whole third week.  I had exactly the same type thing.  I was so frustrated I wanted to give up.  I was begging for relief.  I couldn't even sleep for more than 2 hours.  I was exhausted and frustrated and then one day it just didn't hurt on my fourth week.  It was really weird.

So hang in there.  Breathe and listen to your body and give it what it needs right now.  Stay hydrated and you will get through it.

Next week WILL be better.

Joyful in my pursuit of healthy living.

I'm 3 weeks post op and the same things happens to me. I can't yawn, cough, nor laugh without the sharp pain under my left ribs. I'm going to ask my doctor about it. I also get hiccups atleast once a day.

Okay good - I thought I was crazy!  It's not really bad, unless I'm trying to sneeze or yawn - otherwise I don't feel any pain at all but as soon as I take that deep deep breath - ZING! I think it may just be some internal bruising or a wayward stitch but I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one.  It's gotten easier in the passing weeks but hasn't gone away 100% just yet...crossing my fingers!
