Why can't I have SUGAR? (I am 7wks post op RNY)
OMG! You had sugar! To the lynching tree with you! ...NOT!
If anyone tells you they can go through life after WLS and never (ABSOLUTELY NEVER) taste something with sugar again... in the US... with our "over processed" "high fructose corn syrup" society... they're full of ****!
I've tested my pouch and I've found out that certain quantities make me dump (three tablespoons of anything sweet / carby) so I limit - not deprive- myself. I'm very carefull, track everything I eat, strictly adhere to a 40% protein 30% fat and 30% carb diet and I'm losing weight at a nice pace despite the occasional bite of cookie. I don't fear that I'm going to be one of those people that a year out are whining they gained everything back because the biggest advantage i've received from my WLS is that I've lost enough weight to MOVE! And now I'm running (not walking) over 3 miles a day, and I enjoy it!
So, start moving! Begin a lifetime exercise routine and enjoy life, but within limits (NOT a bag of cotton candy, just a bite) like regular thin people do. And when someone on this board rags on you for tasting sugar (rolls eyes) ask them how many miles they run per day.

I run 2 going on 3 miles a day. You have no right to tell her she can eat sugar, or to mock us for showing concern and anger because people like that fail and give the rest of us a bad name...she will have a friend that is telling someone down the road, don't have gastric bypass because it doesn't work...because my friend Lisa had it and didn't lose or gained all her weight back. This is NOT the first time she has strayed. She is 7 weeks out. It is advice like that, that causes some to stray and start sliding down the slope. You didn't have as much weight to lose as her and you are closer to goal than she is.
"You have no right to tell her... " Really? lets see you stop me.
"It is advice like that... " Advice like "Enjoy life but within limits, start a lifetime exercise routine" is going to cause her to "start sliding down the slope"? And you know this for an absolute fact? LOL! How about that the idea of a life totally deprived of any gustatory pleasure throws her into a fit of depression that leads to binging episodes causing her to "start sliding down the slope"? It's possible.
The fact is neither you nor I know. And I believe most people come here for advice, friendship and maybe some sympathy, not judgment and wide sweeping unverified pronouncements. (Maybe some with a masochistic nature come here hoping to be flamed into behaving, but in the long run, that ain't gonna do their self esteem much good ) So... just get over yourself, 'cause here... you're just some text on a forum.
No offense Chili, but you seem rather obsessed with pointing out her faults... (Including sending me PM's about her). WHO CARES about how far you can run? It's all about our own personal decisions...In the last year I have ran 2 x 26.2 mile marathons, have another one this weekend, have completed 4 x 70.3 mile Ironman Triathlons, 1 x 140.6 mile Ironman, and tons of other races.... Big deal.... None of that means anything if I start making bad health decisions. Live and let live. Be here for POSITIVE support, and don't put down others because maybe they aren't as good as you or are mentally in the place YOU are....

And by saying "Who cares" about being able to run 2-3 miles, I didn't mean to belittle your achievement, that's awesome you are doing that much... Just wanted to make sure you knew I was not making light of YOUR accomplishmentss....

I am in no way obsessed with her faults..A want her to succeed. Most of my post here have been directed to the people who have patted her on her head and said poor Lisa, don't listen to those big bad posters..you go ahead and have some sugar at 7 weeks out. You, at almost 2 years out should understand that more than most on here. You come on here telling us how mean we were without bothering to find out the history here. This isn't something new for Lisa...but she needs her caged rattled a little by people who are struggling along with her. You are almost at goal...you are in a totally different place than she is. My support is positive. I am POSITIVE she will fail if she doesn't get help. I am here for support, not to be an enabler.
Also, I run for myself not for anyone and any race. Great for you...you have worked very hard to get where you are...I want Lisa to have the same opportunity as you. Telling her she can have sugar at 7 weeks out is not being very supportive on your part.

Ack why would you want to dump at 7 weeks out and know that you are in the percentage of RNYers that don't dump.
Honey, you might have opened a can of worms you don't need. The small bites now are what help you lose weight and learning to eat correctly is what helps keep the weight off long-term.
Please DO NOT sample anymore sugar for a while.....for you own success.

Do you want to continue to eat sugar and junk like cotton candy or do you want to lose weight and be healthy? It is entirely up to you but eating cotton candy at 7 weeks out does not bode well for weight loss surgery success. The fact that you are already testing for dumping and are even ASKING this question shows that you werent mentally ready for surgery. I hope you can get your head together and follow your surgeon's plan before you end up heavier than when you started out.

I am glad you asked your question. This was something you were curious about. I'm sure there are many things that many of us would like to ask but don't because of people's negative reaction. We are all here to be supportive and try to help one another out along this journey. Many of you have attacked this woman. She is still learning. This has all been taken way too personal. Giving her advice in a constructive way would be best. Attacking her is NOT. Take a step back and think of how you would feel if you asked a question you truly wanted an answer to and people attacked you. I just hope that this can be a learning experience for many of you.
