Hi there!  I"m so sorry you had to go through the issues that you had with the band.  No one, regardless of WLS choice, should have to suffer (even though sometimes issues cannot be helped.)

I am curious, though.  If you are revising, have you considered the Duodenal Switch?  I know that after a year out, I have never been happier.  I didn't see any stats on you, but for me, I was considered a "lightweight" at 238 lbs with about 108 lbs to lose.  I am down 104-106 lbs at any given time.  I am happy with my body image at 132 lbs to 150lbs.  I thought I looked good in that range, so I'm happy that if I do have the typical bit of regain, I'll still be within my range.  I currently weigh 132 lbs.

I made the decision to have the DS because of my uncontrolled diabetes.  The day that I had my surgery, I was cured of diabetes.  My A1C dropped from a 8.4 to a current 4.5.

Also, because of my lightweight status, I was able to eat a bit more normally rather than watching my carbs like most people would.  That was a decision that the doctor and I had made and I don't advise it for anyone, it just worked that way in my case.  When people ask me how I eat, I tell them that I eat like my best friend does who it a normal 128 lbs.  I don't deprive myself of anything and I don't have the desire to binge eat like I used to.

I just wanted to give you another perspective and whatever surgery you choose, I hope it works out for you!

Wishing you success!

I had the sleeve and I love it.  I haven't had any complications and I am doing quite well...good luck on your journey..

14 pounds lost before surgery. My first ticker is when I hit onderland: this was my goal when I started on this journey.  I want to focus on that right now...once I get there I can reevaluate.

My second ticker is my dream goal. Even if I only visit there for a short time, it would be nice to see that number just once.  I am pretty sure I'll need plastics to hit this goal.

Think of it this way --- when you dieted before lap band, did you lose much weight?  All the band and VSG do is help you eat less.   Will it work?  For some of us, we needed to actually change the way our body metabolized food.  There's big difference here.  For others, stopping the fork from the mouth was all they needed.  We're obese for different reasons and these procedures work different ways.  Take convenience and "invasiveness" aside, and take a long look at your obesity and how you got here in the first place before you go under the knife again.

I currently have the lapband. When researching weight loss surgery 9 months ago everybody said the lapband was the way to go. Eight months of discomfort  and a damaged port later I'm going in to get it taken off.  I'm getting the sleeve instead on 01/19/2010 & I have read all the blogs & everyone seems pleased with their sleeve. I just want to hear if anyone went through any complications or have any regrets. I have so much from my band actually $10000 worth of regret & frustration(yes I paid out of pocket0
I've struggled and tried but with very little success as the band made me so sick. Please give your insights, & opinions. Thanks...

Sorry, but not everyone said the lap band is the way to go.  I've been warning people about the band on various message boards for 2.5 years now, many of us have.

The frightening thing about WLS is that people are so focused on getting thin we ALL tend to read what we want.

The 2nd time around we start listening to everyone instead of what we want to hear.

Nope, I have had no problems with my sleeve.  Perfect in every way for me.  But you need to stop and think if restriction alone is the way to go.  Not everyone can do it without malabsorption.  Did you make good food choices with the band?  If you didn't then, you won't with a sleeve either.  You can eat around any surgery type.

Thanks to all those that responded. I have been researching and again the sleeve seems to be going well for most, but again its only been around for a short time. I have lost weight on diets many times before, but I always gain it back. My problem with my band goes way beyond it not working. I am in physical discomfort all day everyday. I am getting it removed whether or not I get the sleeve done. My doctor suggested I do the sleeve because I'm a self pay and the cost of removing the band is pretty close to getting the sleeve(kinda a kill 2 birds with 1 stone thing). I just wish I had never done it in the first place. I was fat but fat & pain free. Now I'm still fat, but with constant abdomen cramps and almost like an old lady even if I try to pick something up & lets not forget the extra $10,000 worth of debt. I just want this mess to be over

I will repost my question on the SLV forum and see what responses I get there. Thanks again...
