Has anyone had problems with their Sleeve

Hello,I am a DS surgeon, and an advocate for scientific exchange of information.
DS patients do not struggle with their labs. I have no idea where the butter fits in this whole thing.
In support of all patients that have battled obesity, it is important to remind ourselves that obesity is a metabolic problem and not a behavior issue. Congratulation on your weight loss.
Thank you for your input.

I did not suggest that DS patients struggle with their labs, I was pretty clear. I am not good about taking vitamins and *I* would struggle with labs because of this.
If I eat a mostly veggie diet that is low fat I would not do well with DS. My point is that we are all unique and individual and it's not a metabolic issue for all of us. I plain and simply ate crap pre op and too much of it. Head hunger was my issue, not a metabolic problem. Treating the head hunger and limiting my quantity of food did the trick.
Again, we are all individuals and not all of us need something as drastic as malabsorption and I stand behind that statement.

Do you do all of the weight loss surgeries or just the DS? Just trying to see where you are coming from.

Dr. K is capable of performing all 4 major surgeries.
Won against big bad (SoCal) Kaiser for a Duodenal Switch Haven't heard of DS? Kaiser wants it that way. Come on over & read the truth.
Hit goal (Normal BMI) on 2-10-11! I LOVE my DS!!
My approval process timeline:
02/12/09 - Dr. refused to refer me for WLS
03/03/09 - Vented/whined about it on another board, planned to just wait until next year & switch plans
Let's see what happens!

I do not do the RNY as a weight loss surgical procedure because of my training and the published data showing that there is more durable operation available. I do sleeve gastrectomy on selected cases, and AGB. At the present time however a large part of my practice is revision of RNY, Lap Band, or Sleeve to DS for weight regain, inadequate weight loss, or complications of the primary operation. I have also redone some DS operations for primarily excessive weight loss.
I am a string advocate of factual patient education. There is a lot of unscientific information being passed around and after a while it becomes fact.
All you need to do is look at the top of this page-the add that says do you need to lose 50 pounds or more? well guess what that is outside the scope of what the FDA has allowed and it is posted on the lapband.com website at:
http://lapband.com/get_informed/about_lapband/right_for_me/
The other point that is carved in stone is the reported bathroom issues of the DS. There is one study that I am aware of that looked at specifically the bowel issues and found no significant difference between the bowel issues of the DS and the
RNY.

I just realized that this was a very long answer to your simple question.
Thanks

Okay, now you are just ******g me off!
NOT everyone needs malabsorption. NOBODY needs a band. You do both!
If you were seriously into patient education you would be addressing ALL our issues and one MAJOR issue is OCD and YOU decided not to do the minimal research and learn about OCD meds. You wrote this, you were quite clear that you do not prescribe meds for those of us that obsess over food because ... as you explained... you do not know enough about these drugs. PCPs prescribe these drugs, YOU are a specialist. YOU do not know about these drugs.
All you do is repair the outcomes of OCD and food. Bahh....
Quit freak'en trolling the boards for new patients and read a damn paper on OCD.
There, I wrote it. And I damn well meant it.

Doctor, I urge you to be very careful when handing out your medical opinion on an open forum. You know absolutely nothing about the OP and yet you suggest that she have DS when she was not even considering that particular surgery. God forbid that ,on your professional advice, she have the DS and have a lifethreatning complication.
As a person you are entitled to your opinion here on the boards but as a DS surgeon, you would do well to reserve your professional advice for your actual patients.
You know better than anyone else on these boards, people have weight loss surgeries for many different reasons and NO one surgery is best for every patient. I feel your professional opinion here will only serve to confuse pre operative patients. You really can't come here and make a blanket statement that DS is the best proceedure out there. It isn't best for everyone.
This concerns me and I will look further into this practice of a DS surgeon pushing DS on an open forum.
Thanks.
