Did your plantar fasciitis go away when you lost weight?

I had bad pains in my knees pre-op...but no plantar fasciitis.

Post op, I'm active and always standing/walking for long periods of time...and I'm fairly certain I've actually ended up developing PF post-op.  Nothing compared to the knee pain pre-op.  Just a little unpleasant.  So in my case, opposite effect, but overall improvement in body pains.

OMG, YES!! The pain in my feet when I was heavy was horrific, but almost completely resolves as I lost more and more weight.

But like the previous posters say, daily stretching of the foot will prevent plantar fasciitis from recurring. I do it every morning before I even get out of bed--and I never have a problem when running or any activity.

It may take 3 to 6 months of twice-daily stretching (go to Runners World online to find some terrific plantar fascia stretches) to completely heal your plantar fascia, especially if you've suffered from it for years, but these simple stretches can completely cure the problem in up to 80% of cases! I say, go for it!

I got so excited to see this post. I've been suffering with PF for months now. I got a shot but only got some relief for about 2 weeks. I stretch, ice, etc. but I'm limping so badly  other parts of me are starting to ache.

My WLS surgery is scheduled for Tuesday. Now I'm really looking forward to it. Thinner me and hopefully no more PF pain.

Mine has pretty much gone away and I can even wear my heels again!  It is great.  I hope as my weight loss continues it will get even better, but it is so much improved.  Prior to surgery I would have to hold on to my dresser when I first got out of bed or else I would collapse from the pain in the morning.  I surely don't miss that at all!!!

My PF is getting better.. but I have to do stretches too. The one with the towel before bedtime is good. But when I brush my teeth and shave in the AM I do more in front of the sink. I move one foot back and stretch those calf muscles for about fifteen seconds. Then I switch feet. I do that about three times each foot.

I also found a very firm arch support orthotic works. Dr. Scholls makes one with a medium and firm insert. That's helped a lot as I lose weight so I can walk more.

Mine has completely gone, as has the knee pain, joint pain and occasional back pain I dealt with on a daily basis before. Nothing hurts any more!

Yup, mine went away 100%. I can even wear high heels for a few hours at a time now :-).

I was suffering from PF for a few years, but 2 years ago I went to a chiropractor for a hip that was out of socket from a fall on the ice, and he noticed how tight my calves were, and that lead me to tell him about the PF, he did a treatment (Graston Technique) on my feet once a week for 2 months, and it literally healed the muscle, adnd it hasn't been back since.  It was the use of a cream and big metal tool that borke down the scar tissue and torn areas, and I swear it was a miricale life saver for me!  I would suggest the stretches and maybe find a chiro who uses the Graston Technique (http://www.grastontechnique.com/).  I'm telling you, after the second week I didn't have the morning pain anymore, and after a month I rarely had pain at all.  We did it until he couldn't feel the "gristle" of the scar tissue anymore, and they've been great since.  This was all 2 years before WLS when I was in the 290's.  Good Luck!
