Did your plantar fasciitis go away when you lost weight?

I don't have a date yet but expecting it to be sometime in Dec. I'm really hoping losing 100 lbs will cure or at least help my plantar fasciitis.  Did losing weight help your pain if you had PF pre-surgery?

The best way to deal with plantar fasciatis is to stretch your foot before getting out of bed. Hold a towel on either end to make a sling. Put the front ball of your foot into the sling. Slowly and gently pull your foot forward while keeping your leg as straight as you can. This prevents the fascia that attaches to the bone when you are sleeping from tearing when you first stand up. It takes a bit of time, but eventually it will start to ease up and disappear.

When I say that it takes time, I mean that it could take weeks, but most definitely worth the effort. I had PF several years ago and did this exercise. It went away and never came back.

I was never diagnosied with  Plantar Fascilitis but i had horrible foot pain in my heel, that would go up to my knees.. Now that i have had surgery and able to wear better shoes since my feet are loosing the weight as well. The pain has gone away. If i do a hard day on the treadmlll or at the gym then i have a bit of foot pain... Other then that its awesome, i think taking the weight off helps a bunch.
Good luck with your surgery.

Yes mine went away, I used to get cortisone shots and those are pretty painful in your feet, but the stretching really helps.  But since I've lost weight my feet are great as I walk over 5 miles a day.
Good luck!

That's so good to hear Judy!  I'm happy for you.  I've done all the exercises, stretching, cortisone shots and shock wave therapy.  My only other option is foot surgery and I'm not going to go there.  Some days though........I can be limping after just doing grocery shopping.  Five miles sounds like a dream as I love to walk!

Karen, I'm dealing with the same issue and I have been since March.  I also did the cortisone injections, the ultrasound therapy... I do stretches when I can, but unfortunately my alarm goes off at 4 AM!  I hit the snooze once, do some stretches, and when the alarm goes off again I must get up and go.  If I was really active the day before, then the morning is pure hell.  But I can't spend all of my time sitting on my bee-hind, either!

Thanks for asking this question, I was wondering the same thing!

Karen,  I  did have it  right  up  until  the weight  started to drop and now  6 months  later it is all cleared up. I still make it  a habit to  stretch my  feet  before getting  out of bed and I still do not walk barefoot ...just keeping  on the right  track.

There is hope!

Mine was so bad I could hardly walk I was limping all the time.  I had surgery on my right foot and then I could feel how tight my left one was so I started doing stetches and it hardly ever  hurts me anymore.  I have not had WLS surgery yet so I am sure it will get even better.  Its your calf muscles that are too tight and causes the pain,  standing on a step with your heels hanging over is the best stretch ever and does me instand relief.
