Diana Cox is a perfect example of someone that will NEVER admit that she is wrong about ANYTHING.  Keep preaching moron, contrary to your pitiful belief, the almighty DS is not for everybody.  It may have been the best choice for you and many of your cronies, but it's not the best for everybody.  I know a ton of people that have had very long term success with RNY and lapband.  You really need to get over yourself and quit scaring off the newbies.  Maybe you ought to try to give the positives AND negatives of the DS instead of trying to make it sound like there are now drawbacks.  Believe me, there ARE drawbacks to it, just like to any other wls.

I think you are correct big bertha. I have never said RNY was the best surgery for everyone, It isn't. Neither is DS or any other wls. Everyone is different and each person reacts differently to their wls. Even DSers have problems with their surgery choice. My friend has some issues with her DS, She's not 100% happy with it.

Diane will never admit even the slightest problem with DS. Even if it were staring her in the face, Sad isn't it.

"I know a ton of people that have had very long term success with RNY and lapband. "

And there are many MORE tons of people who have FAILED at the RNY and LapBand.

Nobody ever said there aren't SOME people who succeed with other surgeries -- but the BEST chance of getting the weight off, and keeping more of it off LONG TERM is with the DS.  The statistics prove this, whether you like it or not.

If I only get ONE bariatric surgery per lifetime, I'd want to make sure my first and last choice was the one MOST likely to be the one that gives the BEST results -- AND let's me enjoy eating more than I ever did as a constantly dieting obese person between ages 16-50.  Dieting is not part of my vocabulary any more -- but it is for most of the rest of you.

PS: the tiramisu and glass of real milk I'm having for dessert right now are fabulous!

Why should I believe YOU?

I have been living with the DS for 2 years, and have not experience ANY drawbacks.

Yeah OK. You didn't waste your time.  You didn't look up my pitiful life. Yeah OK  I see you had no problem posting it though. Yeah, sent to you by people who can't stand  me. Hahaha Yeah OK. One of your DS minions, no doubt. Haha

As you can tell I really can't be bothered to post anything about you whether it's been sent to me or not.  I consider it a compliment that you took the time to look me up and post  it on this forum.

I am not the one on here saying that RNY is the best wls surgery around. As far as that post goes, at least I am honest. I love my RNY and I am human and do get cravings for sweets. As you can see by that post my pie and ice cream will cure my cravings for months to come. Not a bad pay off. The dumping can't be that bad if I am willing to risk it for something as frivolous as apple pie. The dumping didn't kill me and no more craving. Pretty good pay off it you ask me.

For one with all the letters after her name, you seem pretty dense. I never said RNY was the one and only successful surgery as you have been spouting about DS. I have had some problems with RNY. They were minor and easily fixed. I did have some issues with losing sweets but I think DSers cannot eat a lot of sweets either. That being true, how would I have found DS a better surgery than RNY. I see DSers have some problems too so RNYers don't have the monopoly there.

I suffer from arthritis and erroneously thought I could no longer take ibuprofen. I was pleased to learn that if I take Losec I can easily take ibuprofen.

To reiterate, I was never a grease or fat eater before wls so how would I have been better off with DS? If you really believe eating all that fat and grease represents in any way shape or form anything close to a healthy diet, you are sadly mistaken. It does represent was is considered normal eating for a DS patient. Not what normal society calls normal diet.

To all those out there who think the vitamin women knows more about vitamins than a registered wls dietitian OK. I have a nice bridge in New York for sale.  I personally don't know these women and I certainly don't go on line for medical advice. I go to my health care team.

Good luck with your search of my "pitiful: life. I'll bet you are looking it up right now. I am flattered.

The nutritionists learn what's in the books.

Very little info about wls patients is in the books, and even less info about DS or Distal RnY--which is what VitaLady had.  When I had my LapBand, a local doctor gave me all the helpful hints one would need...if one had had the RnY.

Bottom line...people who do what nutritionists who learned everything they know from their textbooks, are people who end up getting very, very sick.  Some of these "vitamin people" people actually go to the Bariatric Society meetings and discuss our particular needs with our surgeons. That means that SOME of the people on your esteemed health care team may be getting their info from...yup...these people right here...see how that works?

DSers who eat sweets lose weight more slowly...they do not roll around moaning sure they're about to die...which is what SOME of my RnY friends do.  Big difference.

I will continue to believe my health care team. Wls has been around long enough now for the RDs to have gotten a handle on it, from whatever sourse.

Not all RNYers dump. I think only about 10% actually dump for the first year or so then most of the time it dissapates. I dump. I don't roll around moaning and think I am about to die. I feel nauseated and light headed and I get sleepy. I dump less often now than when I was first out. If it were that bad I would not have subjected myself to it for a slice of pie.

My DS friend gets diarrhea if she eats too many sweets or carbs. I think both she and I eat about the same amount of sweets at a time without ill effect.  Too much and I dump , Too many sweets and she dumps too only in the other direction.

About 10% of RnYers dump for the first year & then it dissipates?  Where exactly do you pull you facts from?  Seriously, you continue to make yourself look like you have NO knowledge of your own surgery with these inaccurate facts and blindly following your obviously ill-informed hearth care team on your nutritional supplementation, and yet you continue to state that you are a medical professional yourself..... pathetic.

I got my info from my information packet from my surgeon, Backed it up from Dr, Cristeau's Montreal clinic site ( weight loss surgery) And personal experience. I am able to eat more sweet things now than the first 6 months, I don't eat much sweets. I seem to have lost most of my sweet tooth. Just i will get a gnawing craving ever so often and it will bug me till I abswer it.

You may think me stupid for following my health care team. So be it. When I want your advice on my nutrition, I will ask you for it, Don't hold your breath.

Anytime you think you know more than my health care team because you read articles on line, you live in dreamland.

Yeah I am a nurse and do have access to the medical library at the hospital . So not too ill informed. LS is no longer new and experimental surgery anymore. I however am not obsessed with my wls. I don't spend hours every day studying my surgery. I ask my sites if something new pops up and if someone had experienced something similar they tell me. If I I have a real medical concern, I ask my team. I do not go on line to seek medical advice.

If not stupid, then naive...I mean I LIKE my surgeon and PCP and all my other specialists and such.  But I verify and I question.  If you don't care more about your own health than your "health team" does, then you have a shaky future indeed.
