Alright Diane i will answer you back by hitting the right buttons. For some reason being computer literate seem so very important to you.

Not once have I disrespected anyone on this site. I have not gotten into name calling or other childish tactics that people who are wrong and know it always revert to. I did convey a response to apologize because he was being ignorant as well as rude and inappropriate. A lot of you are VERY RUDE but as I have said before I do find that more so on the Ds site than any other of the wls sites. There are exceptions of course. Some DSers are very nice and helpful.

My friend who I have suggested go to the DS site for advice said the same thing. She did go there and complained that she was having a problem but she was attacked and someone even suggested that she was not a DSer at all but a RNYer looking to cause trouble and start a fight. Is there any wonder why she has never gone back?

Yes, education is very important in my decision about who I trust with my health. I do trust my health care team. You might think that foolish but I think it is even more foolish to trust someone "on-line" whom I have never met and cannot validate their credentials. If you want to, that's your concern. I have never suggested that you are doing something wrong in your choice of vitamins. I personally have never heard of any RNYer in my home province ever having vitamin deficiencies and I am sure by now I certainly would have.

With all of the qualifications you say you have, you work where again?  Oh yeah, an insurance office. Yeah, OK.

As far as my meal plan goes, I was just telling you what i had for lunch today not daily. As for all of the grease and fat you eat. Yucch. I would not have eaten that pre wls. I don't think your fat and grease consumption is exactly a healthy eating choice, do you? Is that really what you would feed your children?  My eating plan follows the American and Canadian healthy eating plans pretty well. I would not hesitate to feed my grandchildren exactly what I eat at a sitting. I have never felt the need to drown my food in fat and grease and certainly would not drown my children's meal in fat and grease.

Are you even AWARE of how ridiculous you are??

I am a biotech patent attorney.  I work for cutting edge biotech companies, and have been VP at my last two jobs.  I just got bought out of my last job after our biotech was set up for sale to a big pharma company, which yielded very nice profits on senior managements' stock options and severance packages.  Because of that, I am now able to have my reconstructive surgeries at leisure, while I am living off my severance, which amounts to almost 20 months of full pay before I need to find another job.

"I personally have never heard of any RNYer in my home province ever having vitamin deficiencies and I am sure by now I certainly would have."  You must not read much.

You don't think the DS high fat diet is healthy??  That's because you STILL don't understand the DS -- but that's OK, because if you did, you might want to shoot yourself for not knowing about it before chosing the RNY.

No, I would not feed my children the same way -- they are already adults, by the way -- but even if they weren't, it wouldn't make any difference.  In fact, it would be a TEACHING opportunity for them to understand that everyone has their own nutritional requirements and must deal with what they are, not "what everyone else eats."  My son is a carboholic who is nevertheless slender and muscular like his father, but needs to eat more protein than he prefers.  My daughter tends to put on weight like me, though I was able to teach her healthier habits since childhood, despite the fact that since she had teeth, she was a hard core carnivore -- so she has learned how to moderate her fat intake and to exercise -- we exercise together in fact, even though she is married and of course doesn't live with me anymore.

I can put more butter on MY veggies, more salad dressing on MY salad, more alfredo on my chicken, without disrupting anyone else's intake.  It's not rocket science -- at least not for me.  But I think probably this is too difficult for you to comprehend, so it's a good thing you didn't know the DS was an option -- you'd probably kill yourself with vitamin deficiencies, and kill your family by forcing your dietary regimen on them.

What a buffoon.

You may have all the letters you want after your name Diane but if you haven't even learned how to act like an adult, the I guess it was an awful waste of money and time. Then again I suppose people like you think they are above being pleasant or even decent. Bully for you.

Just FYI, you don't seem to know a hell of a lot about RNY diets either. I put butter on my potatoes, salad dressing on my salads and with the exception of sweets I eat pretty much as I have always eaten all of my life. The main difference is I can only eat about 1/3 of what i used to eat and I am full for hours on that amout.  I don't eat many  sweets but correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think DSers can eat a lot of sweets either. At least my friend can't.

When I was researching a wls for myself, I found DS very much like the Atkins diet. I tried that diet and lasted less than a week. I though it was awful.

DS was available to me but I chose RNY. For me it was and is a better choice. I was not a big fat or grease eater before wls, why would I want to become one after? RNY eating plan is still closer than DS to what is considered a healthy eating plan. You can check that fact out anywhere you like.

I like to sit at the table with my children and grandchildren and eat what they eat . I don't want them to think smearing fat and grease all over my food is correct eating habits. Children learn what they see.

"I will follow the advice of my registered dietitian. I'd be a fool not to. I gladly and willingly followed her and my surgeons advice before I had surgery so I'd be stupid now to say that someone on the internet is more knowledgeable about vitamins than my dietitian."

Then you are doomed to failure, my dear. Doomed. Your dietitian has no clue what you need to do, unless they are one of the few who has made a concerted effort to follow along with our special requirements. And yeah, they're really special, few and far inbetween. If you're smart, you WILL say that "someone on the internet is more knowledgeable about vitamins than my dietitian" because frankly Andrea and Vitalady know more about vitamins and how those of us with WLS deal with them than your dietitian will know in his/her lifetime.

Since you're following the advice you got to only take four vitamins a day - umm, a multi, a calcium, B-12, iron? I hope that that's the minimum you've got - you'll soon be seeing the difference in your labs. Wait for it. Then we'll see what sort of advice your dietitian has for you. Probably confusion is all you'll get and you'll have to turn to "someone on the internet" to help save you from life-threatening deficiencies. That is, if you're smart.

And as a side note about Old Medic. Just being older doesn't mean that you get respect, especially when said person has been a total ass to so many people and spouted so many wrong facts. Respect is earned, not automatically given, no matter how old you are. Older people do not automatically get a "pass." My 80-year-old mother-in-law will be the first to tell you that.

And that, my dear is why so many of you DSers don't get any respect.  If you can't di**** out, don't expect any in return.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

You're right, I don't expect respect at all. After all, this is the internet. You'd be a fool to expect anything of that nature on a medium of this kind. Which is why I don't go around with my panties all in a bind, demanding that people respect me, or anybody else. I have a bit more of a realistic expectation than that.

I also think you're a fool to lump everybody into one pot. Because, as you said to me on another post, pot, meet kettle. And guess what? We're all black with soot. I can deal with that. Can you?

Never heard of respect your elders? Maybe it's because I am Canadian. But I definately was raised to respect my elders. Even if I were to disagree with an oldmedic, I would have enough respect to not name call my elder. I would still voice my disagreement but never to show disrespect. As I say I was raised better than that.

See & I was raised smarter than that. Not to just take the word of a fool because he is old. Just because someone is older doesn't mean they deserve my respect. It just means they'll be dead soon.
Won against big bad (SoCal) Kaiser for a Duodenal Switch  Haven't heard of DS? Kaiser wants it that way. Come on over & read the truth
Hit goal (Normal BMI) on 2-10-11!    I LOVE my DS!!

It is perfectly fine to disagree with anyone regardless of their age, but to act in a disrespectful manner just because he has said something that you don't agree with    says a LOT more about you and your value system . Seems like an awful waste of a lot of education if you haven't even learned how to behave as an adult.

Who died and made you god?

Just because the information that you have read favors DS does not nean that that info is 100% correct. If you are as educated as you lead us to believe you are then you ,of all people, know there is more than one truth and anybody can reproduce fact to quantify their belief. Whatever that belief may be.  Even DSers.

My point is now and has always been..if DS works for you, that's wonderful. Good for you. You will conceede though that not everyone is happy with DS just as well as not everyone is 100% happy with ANY wls. Don't come to mainboard spouting that DS is the be all end all of wls because we all know it isn't. None are. Grow up already.
