WARNING TO PRE-OPS: Think twice, cut once -- or else!
You said ,"My biggest problem pre wls was carbs, sweets and portion size. I don't believe DSers can eat unlimited carbs or sweets either. RNY has stopped my overindulgence in carbs, sweets and portion size and really that's what I needed."
Just for the record (for pre-ops information), this is NOT something only an RnY can do. The DS is ALSO a restrictive surgery to help with portion size, and the avoidence of overindulgence works THE SAME with the RnY and the DS, unless you're unlucky enough to dump . . . .then the punative results of the RnY win hands down. Although, dumping only happens to about 30% of RnY post-ops, and often times can disappear over time.

I don't understand why finding ignorance annoying makes someone a bad person who hates themselves, personally.
When people are being willfully stupid, they should be called on it. Especially if they are doing it repeatedly.

Just because there are HUNDREDS of RNY and Lapband mills that post lies about the DS on their websites because it is in their economic interest to do so, doesn't make those lies true. You should learn the difference between facts and opinion and advertising puffery before doing your research, really. Try looking at SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS rather than internet infomercials.
Let me repeat -- I don't give a rat's ass what surgery you chose, only that you had all the FACTUAL information necessary to make an informed decision in the first place. After that, you're on your own, and no whining about how you didn't know the truth before surgery will be justifed.

Thanks Annette - I hope the poster who said she had a friend with issues with her DS will direct her friend to the DS forum where she can get the help she needs to get her issues under control, just as you did. You are living proof that such issues are NOT surgical complications, but rather entirely manageable side effects of the very malabsorption that makes the DS the most effective WLS available.
Pre-ops and post-op DSers who may be having issues: there is NO need to suffer with the DS -- a few adjustments to supplements, understanding your own particular food sensitivities and timing of eating the foods you enjoy, and the DS can be all we say it is. It's up to you.
